YONKERS, NY — April 17, 2014 — Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano continues to “spin” so-called “news” to fit his demeanor. In Mayor Spano’s most recent email blast, that of April 16, 2014, he was quick to celebrate the Yonkers Police Department’s Emergency Service Unit, assisted by Empress Ambulance personnel in helping to deliver the birth of a child. No opportunity seemed to be spared in bringing all those engaged in helping the baby enter a new world. The proud parents where in the hospital room with YPD E.S.U. and Empress Ambulance personnel, the support crew, by their side. And so it should be. Why then did Mayor Mike Spano not send out notice of the equally engaging delivery by Kimball Avenue Firehouse Firefighters, assisted by Empress Ambulance personnel, when they attended the delivery of a baby boy at 93 Hyatt Place?
The crew was comprised of Lt. Steve Lawlor, Firefighters Seth Renner, David Daoud, and Brandon Youshock. The mother and baby were in good condition upon arrival to the hospital.
The shame of it all is that Yonkers City Hall chooses to diminish one integral department in the city as if to diminish their efforts, while celebrating another. Such circumstances are akin to a parent choosing one child over another; praising one and not another. I didn’t realize Mayor Mike Spano’s demeanor was so abusive. The truth of it all is that such biased behavior on Mayor Spano’s part only diminishes him and besmirches the Office of Mayor of the City of Yonkers.
