There were many other deadbeats with them. But it’s only fun to mention the two “big shots” in the room. Rumor has it KO the FAT RAT had to use two stools to support his fat ass. After slugging about 10 beers the rat was seen leaving to drive home in a city car. Maybe YPD should have pulled his fat ass over and given him a DWI…but then again he is an “untouchable” in this city…much like Capone’s guys in Chicago, so it goes. Yonkers is a cesspool. cal in the FEDS.

    Rich…

I do see improvement though…not on every street. But on Main St. running down to the water, there is progress. I don’t mean shootings on Elm Street. There are many problems in the City, I agree. But I don’t call that the downtown. What I mean is down at the river. You have to start somewhere.

    1. spano sucks

are u kidding me, their are section 8 living in the brand new buildings on the water and spano wants to build more…. the water front is a joke…. no one is ever down their…..

Of course no thinking citizen would really wish the Mayor was the victim of any serious illness. But what many of you Spanoites fail to comprehend is the absolute disdain that many people in the COY hold for old Mikey the magnificent.
They are sick and tired of the extreme levels of nepotism and the strong arm tactics used in everyday city government that more resembles episodes of the Sapranos that everyman’s idea of good and trusted government.
In many ways Yonkers is a small city and the stories of taxpayer kept girlfriends and unqualified appointments of family members and political hacks to high compensated city positions seem to be overwhelming and increasing in intensity.
The seemingly Machiavellian way that the Mayor and his advisor brother(s) transact the business of government is completely contrary to the expectation of the city taxpayer.
We are tired of a Mayor who acts more like Boss Tweed than an honest representative of the people.
We are tired of wasted city resources on unqualified hacks.
We are tired of our emergency services being assailed by your (what’s in it for me) tactics instead of making sure that we have the finest services we can reasonably afford. (stay out of their internal politics and negotiate with them honestly)
We are tired of the underhanded treatment of our school system and its past leader. We still await an honest and transparent vetting of what really transpired that forced you to humiliate and dismiss a life-long Yonkers educator.
We are tired of the same old names that seem to turn up every time the COY has some business deal. My goodness, aren’t there any business people out there that we can sell to; buy from; consult with, that has not been convicted of some FELONY? Do you really think we all bought the idea that the BEST deal for us taxpayers came from a partnership of FELONS; one of which happened to be your brother. Really???
    So feel better Mr. Mayor….

Sad…many of your points are valid…and considering that the Mayor is not seriously ill thank goodness, I think your points are fair to some extent.

Where I think you miss the mark is that you seem to think that this Administration is unique in the way that they conduct business. The Amicone, Spencer, Zaleski, and other administrations basically did the same thing that this one does. They hired friends and family members, did business deals with supporters and would-be supporters, and basically ran the City the way they wanted to.

So, isn’t that the simply the system in this City, this County, this State, and this country?

There are some good things happening in the City…more than there have been over the past 10 years. Sure, not everything is perfect. But this Mayor really shouldn’t be portrayed like he’s Al Capone…that’s not fair either.

        Tired of it all,
Not my first Rodeo. Although you are quite correct, the patronage game has been an inherent part of our political system since the beginning, I think the current administration is different.
With the combination of brothers, sisters, cousins and the like; there are many more “family” members that are feeding at the trough in which we the taxpayer, have to fill. When you add the fact that it is well known that girlfriends of brothers and nephews have been treated “specially” and handed some pretty cushy jobs, it only exacerbates the amount us taxpayers have to support.
The Spano machine has extended political tentacles through county and state halls of government through contacts and favors that began with the county clerk and up to the serving governor and his chief aid. This is the same aid that owes favors from the democratic county exec and the chair of the conservative party who mysteriously supported him in a past election. It just so happens that this the same chair that now has one of those high compensated jobs I was talking about. Oh and did I mention that this chair worked in the felons office for years.
Now you can make the case that this kind of thing is reflective of good politics. Could be. I would disagree. I think that this kind of blurring of the lines of government leads to a power cooperative of immeasurable dimension. For example; if the local administration can’t force “cooperation” from some small group or individual, they have the ability to ratchet up pressure using forces in the county and the state.
I submit that this kind of power is extremely corruptive and has already resulted in ugly accusations of election rigging and extortion. Now we have allegations of the intentional blurring of party lines. This new wrinkle in political abuse only works to blunt the only tool the voter really has in the democratic system; elections. If people are bought off to not run, we lose our precious system of check and balances.
When this difference in the parties is intentionally corrupted by special deals and lines of party philosophies are replaced by extortive payments in the form of targeted highly compensated city hall jobs, you have the kind of system mastered by Boss Tweed.
Now you can lull yourself to sleep with the idea that, well; “they all do it”, but I put is to you that the past several mayoral office holders were preschoolers compared to the high octane, scorched earth mentality of our incumbent mayor.
For all of those sleeping or ignoring what is going on in our city, just remember… Sooner or later, they’ll come for you.

        1. Tired of it all

Sad….much of what you say is correct, I’m sure. But I’m new to this and I think the system is not the greatest. But it isn’t the worst either.

I came from a state (Illinois) where the politics are way worse. I also don’t think that this is the way it should work….but everything does. Business works the same way. There are friends..and relatives…who often get the upper hand on others more deserving.

I’m just not sure what to think of the Mayor. I met him and I liked him. People say he’s not that smart but what you’re describing…the Boss Tweed analogy…speaks of a pretty smart guy. I do like the development going on. It makes sense…not large projects that are blue sky like previous administrations. But the downtown is getting better and I think he deserves credit for that. He’s taken some pretty unpopular stands with the unions but I think the economy has forced those positions. And then, from I read, the school shortfall created another bad situation and he handled it.

          I give him credit.

How can you say downtown is getting better do you live under a rock, shootings daily, half empty condos, stores closing open your eyes.

          2. tony

You have to be from Illinois not to know this guy’s history. To say he’s not smart is an understatement and it’s obvious from the time he opens his mouth. Sure give all your family and friends jobs but can’t they at least be qualified? Jobs for all the bottom feeders is his MO and it’s only gonna get worse if he gets his hands on the schools. Guess we’ll stop at the 7th grade once he’s in charge. Deliver our city from these guys. They’re only in it for themselves and to feed that huge empire of Spanos!!!

Al Capone had nothing on Mikey. Its just as bad. Don’t kid yourself. These are bad people and nobody has any interest I’m doing the right thing for the city. Everybody’s hands out for their cut and Mikey’s doling it out like Halloween candy picking and choosing who to feed bases on how he felt about you in high school.

  3. Motley Crew

While Mikey was in the hospital Keith Olson and Vinny Spano were spotted sitting in Rory Dolan’s tonight throwing more than a few back while laughing about how they’ve created life long profiting jobs for themselves and their friends through Mikey
