YONKERS, NY — May 18, 2017 — The fire reported at 10:16am this morning was ravenous, consuming the three-story structure in the process of being built to suffer the ravages of an insatiable fire.
The Yonkers Police Department has issued a Traffic Advisory stipulating that “Warburton Avenue between Odell Avenue to the city line is closed due to active fire operations taking place at 1177 Warburton Avenue. Further, that commuters are advised to avoid the area.”
Yonkers Police Detectives Investigating Fatal Structure Fire at 7 William Street
On Thursday, May 18th, 2017, at approximately 11:08 AM, members of the Yonkers Police Department responded to 7 William Street to assist the Yonkers Fire Department on a report of a two-story structure fire. Thereat officers conducted traffic and crowd control during fire operations. One victim, a 54 year old female Yonkers resident, was removed to a local area hospital where she was subsequently pronounced deceased.
Detectives from the Yonkers Police Fire Investigation Unit, Major Case Unit, and Crime Scene Unit are actively investigating this incident and the cause of the fire, interviewing witnesses, canvassing the scene, and processing forensic evidence. The identity of the victim will not be released pending family notification(s); she was not a resident of the incident premises. No other injuries are being reported at this time.
