MOUNT VERNON, NY — July 12, 2017 — Today, Wednesday, July 12th at 11:30am, Mayor Richard Thomas and the Mount Vernon Central School District will be kicking off the summer feeding program at Mount Vernon High School. The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) is a USDA program that was implemented to ensure children continue to receive healthy meals during the summer months when school is not in session. The meals are only served at approved SFSP sites to children 18 years of age and younger. The meals are offered free to youth at approximately thirty sites in Mount Vernon. Many of the sites are located at schools allowing students able to participate in summer activities such as camps and recreation programs, and then eating a healthy meal on campus.
