Joining Mayor Gearity during this month’s offering from The Ossining Documentary and Discussion Series (ODDS) is 13th, an Academy Award-nominated Ann DuVernay film which lays out the progression from emancipation to mass incarceration by presenting a potent mixture of archival footage and testimony from an array of people. The free screening will take place on July 20th, 2017, at the Ossining Public Library. Seating begins at 6:15 PM and all are welcome. A panel discussion follows with Mayor Gearity moderating. Joining her is Rev. Dr. Darren Ferguson who found his faith during the nine years he spent in prison for attempted murder. He is a preacher, teacher, singer, motivational speaker, and social activist and serves as Pastor of the Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Far Rockaway and leads the Starve The Beast Campaign, dedicated to reducing violence and recidivism in NYC. He is the author of How I Became An Angry Black Man: From Prison to the Pulpit.
