YONKERS! NY — Sepetember 12, 2017 — Westchester County Board Legislator Virginia Perez’ statement following her landslide Democratic Primary victory…
“I want to say ‘thank you’ to the voters of Westchester County Legislative District 17. I enthusiastically accept your overwhelming approval to continue my work, on your behalf at the Board of Legislators.
“I have never wavered from my commitment to fight for the people of southwest Yonkers and with this overwhelming show of your support I am more emboldened than ever to continue that fight for you and with you.
“Sadly there were many untruths that were spread about me and my policy positions by my opponent in this campaign. I believe that Winston Churchill said it best when he said this about TRUTH ‘The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is.’ Yes, there it is. The voters of district 17 know what’s true and that’s all that matters at the end of the day.
“Moving beyond this hard fought primary, I invite my opponent London Reyes to join me in my non-stop fight for the residents of Yonkers. Throughout this campaign London said I was a Republican. I am a proud and loyal Democrat but I have established credibility and influence through my office that allows me to collaborate and negotiate with all of my colleagues on behalf of you, my constituents.
“Together we will continue to look out for each other. For the young parents who need childcare so they can work, to the immigrant child in our building who should not live in fear for herself or her family, to our treasured seniors who deserve care and dignity in their older years- we will continue to stick together while building new bridges to opportunities and resources for our community.”
