YONKERS, NY — June 12, 2018 — The past Sunday incident at City Lights is revised herein through credible sources that advise there was no merciless beating by 5 YFD employees. Further, there was no attack with such veracity by 5 firefighters, that caused a man to a be beaten into a coma.

The firefighters did show up at City Lights and attempted to gain entry and were denied.  Lt. Christopher Mitchell entered into a verbal altercation with an individual and was shoved.  Lt. Mitchell responded by throwing a punch which struck the individual in the head. The man fell backwards and struck his head. The man was rendered unconscious. At no time did ANY of the other YFD employees strike the victim.

The probationary firefighter, who was with Lt. Mitchell, was fired. However,  it was not for striking this man.

While our thoughts and prayers are with the victim, our sources do not know his name.

It seems our initial sources were incorrect or intent on misleading us. We thank those who have taken the time to advise us what did transpire.

Yonkers Police Department has gained access to pertinent video and is studying the tapes.

  1. glad to here everyone is out of the Hospital

All people involved w these incidents were discharged on Monday and Wednesday …Glad to here, no let the individuals get their day in court and we will see what happens …

  2. Jimmy Mac

the club was closed, but there was a male, who is a regular customer, and 2 female dancers standing near the club. the 4 firemen, who had been at Rory Daltons, got out of their vehicle, and tried to engage a conversation with one of the girls, the two females and male tried to walk away, and the 4 firemen followed them, when one of the firemen sucker punched the male and knocked him out and he fell and hit his head real bad…the guy is harmless, out of shape….one sucker punch knock out…you should be proud of yourself

  3. Absurd

    Out of control workforce .
3000,000.00 dollars a year to stay out sick or beat the tar out of citizens.
    No give backs. Never
Drug test and psych test all

  4. Innocent until proven otherwise...

In no way am I advocating for the alleged assailant’s actions in this case. It is indefensible. That being said it is really sad that people on this forum are so biased against the YFD. The hatred is akin to the far left’s “not my president” bias against the POTUS. That’s for another forum entirely, but it leads me to another revelation. Is this not still America?!? The land of the free and the home of the brave, where all men and women are afforded equal justice under the law?Where people are innocent until proven guilty? I am sorry, but until all of the facts come out in this case it is simply unfair to pass judgment on this individual. Clearly there were a series of missteps on this particular evening, but it seems plausible that there were poor decisions made by all parties involved. The alleged victim in this case notwithstanding.
To the people who are patronizing this forum and using it to further your predetermined and completely one sided agenda… You are neither judge nor jury.

  5. Words are Meaningless Unless backed by Action

Statement made by YFD Chief John ‘Mr. Clean’ Flynn – “It’s a very sad and a very unfortunate situation,” says Assistant Chief John Flynn, the president of the Uniformed Firefighters Association. “Obviously, we’re concerned for the individuals that were injured, and we’re wishing them a speedy recovery.”

Gee, I guess Mr. Clean realized that his ‘Magic Eraser’ could not brush away this stain against the overall membership of the department, to which he represents the Fire Officers.

Maybe if he was truly sorry for what happened, he might contribute funds from his Union Members, to help offset some of the medical expenses that this poor individual endured from those ‘Thugs’ who call themselves Fire Officers and Fireman. But Mr. Clean only cares about himself and his ego, so all we will get from him are some petty words

    1. Nothing good happens after 2 am.

Oh please. How the f**k is it Mitchell’s fault that some probie on (ste)Roids bashed some guy’s head in w a bar stool. I have been at numerous events where Chris was working the grill or helping out. My understanding is the guy approached 5 members from our job and started talking shit. It’s 3 am in the morning in a strip club no one their is an angel. I wish the guy a speedy recovery but stop making this more than it is. Hope things work out in your favor also Chris. Keep your head up.

  6. Another proud moment for the YFD

The fire administration needs to take action on this or this behavior will continue with no fear of any discipline

    1. Help

We have come a long way. We, nor the citizens of the YO deserve to be succumbed to the dark ages when piggy fatty and foxy ruled over a mockery of their den of thieves of their making. The young generation deserve better. Out with the bad, because there is a lot of good in the Youngings. They’re all right. Hope I was successful with my therres.

  7. JFly

UFOA was established to create a smaller membership to “cultivate” an inner group of thieves that back stab and lie to the flock of sheep. Main objective to manipulate promotional lists to benefit the inner group members. Kiss the ring and be chosen into the ranks of deceit. The higher the rank, the more likely you are looked on as a ring kisser………………

  8. THEY ARE

Before logging into this site to spread hatemongering comments toward the YFD, please call your 4th grade English teacher and ask them to explain the difference between: Their, there and they’re… these are completely different words and THEY ARE not interchangeable. Then head over to the local kindergarten so you can learn to spell, take a remedial English course and figure out how to formulate a coherent thought before committing it to paper. Perhaps then, those of us who are capable of reading at a Grammar school level can begin to take these comments seriously… thanks.

    1. Spell Check

Call Chief Mr. Clean – He, with his Magic Eraser will correct the spelling with ease. He is able to change anything, even things without anyone knowing it. He’s that magical – lol

  9. RICO LAW NOW . Disgraced time for RICO.

These yonkers fire goons are a menace to the citizens of Yonkers.
The are a well organized and deeply politically connected crime syndicate.
It’s horrible to see how our tax dollars are used to bribe our politicians. Pay to play has a new meaning to me now.
They even wear their gang colors Fire Uniforms in public.
I cannot stand the sight of a fire truck with all those criminals.
Mayor Spano. You are a disgrace that cannot control your workforce. All they do is publicly disgrace Yonkers and you personally.
Mayor Spano ! YOU ARE A F***ING CHUMP
Go get local Zaire local 628 Barry’s coffee.
    BIG DUMB CHUMP

    1. calm down junior

calm down junior, it was as reported an altercation in a place where booze is served .an altercation ! how do you apply the rico statute to an altercation ? I guess you failed the bar exam as well as the fire and police exam .??????????. I goots it nows it was Puerto rican day so every rican fireman or not who has an incident on Puerto Rico day is ubject to the r I c o law now it makes sense ..

  10. Now We Know ! The Federal Government Must Step In !

    Hezi.
This citizen has already been ganged up on by the
    Yonkers Fire Dept.
Now, the Yonkers Fire Unions are ganging up on the citizen in an attempt
at framing him. Especially since he is unable to once again defend himself
    against these gangland thugs.
The comments of how it was the citizens fault are nauseating.
Thank you for your reporting this tragedy.
Otherwise it would be under the carpet.
I am surprised that the BRAVEST just didn’the dispose of the corpse.
The Yonkers Fire Unions are showning how corrupt they are.
Is Yonkers part of the United States or did it suseed from the union ?

  11. JFly

UFOA will do everything in its power for only Chiefs……go luck Lt., you are on your own, just like with the budget cuts. UFOA is a mokery

  12. Jelly

Kudos to the editor for bringing this to light. Whether we are firemen, police as myself or any other city worker, we are all held to the same standard. Good for you!

  13. shmuck shumer

if these men where NOT in uniform and on the job – they need to retain their own attorneys for their gross misconduct and aggression. If one cent is spent by tax payers money then the residents of the City Of Yonkers should rise up and march to the mayors office and demand that they each retain their own attorneys and pay for their own mistake out of their own pockets. They are not firemen if they weren’t on the job. So please for clarification purposes do not call them firemen if they were not working!

  14. Sad day for all.

Again, it is very tiring to see everyone prejudging this situation, and now even more exhausting that the posts have digressed into a forum for public employee bashing in general, and the fire union and its president, in particular.
As far as I can see, the above story has not changed. How come so many are positive the individual in a coma is the victim? According to the story and the follow up posts, nobody is sure who or how many people were involved in this incident, nor exactly what happened, except that one person has been hospitalized and is in a coma.
I am not sure about the rest of you, but the first images I had in my head, after reading the story was of a melee, involving half a dozen firefighters and a middle aged man, crashing through the dessert showcase in the City Limits diner, as the dancers the latter had been peacefully dining with watched in horror.
Seeing as that does not appear to be the case, without the facts, this crucifixion is based purely on speculation.

    1. Fed up

I bet it’s more tiring for the guy the fireman put in the coma. How am I “positive he’s a victim”…umm, because he’s in a coma.

      1. Sorry you are Faaaaaad Uaaaaaap-

No, at this point he is an individual in a coma. Until you know the circumstances, you don’t know if he is “..umm” the victim.
Last word on this incident, it was a single hit that caused this person to have to be hospitalized. There is no narrative of the circumstances leading to the single hit.
What if the hospitalized person assaulted the firefighter first, and the firefighter defended himself by striking the man? Is he still considered the victim?
Therefore “…umm,” your bleating is nothing more than the subjective view of an individual, a term I use loosely under the circumstances, as you are obviously easily led by the opinions of others, who desires the hospitalized person to be the victim.

        1. Still, Sad day for all....

Thank you for the update, Hezi.
Has there been any talk about why the strip club denied this group entry, what caused the argument, or what caused the first person to shove the second? It has been a long time, but as I recall that fine establishment isn’t exactly known for attracting the MIT type.
Was the person who shoved the second party an employee of the club? Was there a personal issue between the two? Were they denied entry for any particular reason? They were allegedly coming from the Puerto Rican Parade and not the Albanian event in NYC, so could race have played a part in the escalation?
It is a shame one of the firefighters was dismissed, but when on probation one can be removed for pretty much, “any reason or no reason at all.” I guess that is one less CoY layoff.

        2. Lock em up Dano

Unfortunately this will be swept under the rug like everything in Yonkers-the sad part is the YFD continues to drink their cool-aid.

      2. Resident

Just because he was in the losing end doesn’t make him the victim. He could of easily if started it and was finished by the FD LT. Don’t assume!

  15. Zero tolerance

All FFs involved should be fired ASAP. There should be a zero tolerance policy regarding this type of conduct. As a matter of fact, when the injured party or his family eventually sue the city, who’s going to cover the City’s legal fees? Publish the names, Hezi. These lowlife firefighters are a disgrace to themselves, the uniform, and the City and they deserve to be publicly shamed and locked up if found guilty.

      1. Jesse J

Better than being a drunken, lowlife, white trash, pension-padding Yonkers firefighter in a seedy stripper’s joint stuffing dollars into ghetto whores g-strings and mercilessly beating someone into a coma only to have the Yonkers taxpayers clean up the mess once again.

  16. Gasman

One suspect has hightailed it to Puerto Rico & is ‘off the grid’ & I understand the victim’s family is preparing to donate his organs.

  17. Fat guy in a little hat

Is Barry gonna on tv blabbing about how someone 1st amendment rights were violated!

For everyone involved I hope for the love of god he doesn’t stuff his F*T face in that helmet again lol

  18. Vinny got half the facts wrong again

It was the City Lights strip club on Yonkers Avenue. It wasn’t an Albanian event it was the NYC Puerto Rican Day Parade. It wasn’t Saturday night it was Sunday night. It wasn’t 5 firefighters it was 1 fire lieutenant.

Fooled you all. The coverup in Yonkers is so great, everyone is hush and then they all come out of the woodwork. I wanted to test my theory and silence and subterfuge rules this city. lies and deceit. little if any truth anywhere. Coverup galore. Now everyone knows. the name(s) at a later date. the bottom line one man is in a coma. that has escaped too many in Yonkers. So, where are the Feds? Anyone know? Now that the issues are vetted, perhaps some other media outlet will write it up.

    1. Lefty

I’m curious…what does being a public servant & working for taxpayers have to do with this article or the city council for that matter? Should they just roll over at the first sign of aggression or every negotiation? Being a taxpayer does not entitle you to some determination of conduct. Your tax dollars also employ commissioners & chiefs to establish those guidelines & I’m confident, IF HALF THIS STORY IS TRUE, the appropriate measures will be taken.

  19. Lt. El Guapo

You can do whatever you want in this job and nothing will ever happen to you… beautiful…im bulletproof!!!!

  20. Piggy Bank

You can bet your Piggy Banks that you will not hear a peep out of either Barry McGoey’s or John Flynn’s offices related to this incident. Those 2 have large voices when it serves them but are quiet as a mouse when issues arise to where their rank n’ file are directly involved, negatively.

The men are only a reflection of their leadership

    1. McGoey and Flynn are professionals

It would be totally inappropriate for either McGoey or Flynn to have any comment at this point. The incident is under investigation and criminal charges will be made if appropriate. There are 450 members of the YFD and just like with police, teachers, priests, etc there will always be some members who go over the line and sometimes even break the law. Anyone accused should be afforded the protections and due process of our constitution just like everyone else.

  21. Sad day for all.

I am often good with most of the articles I see by the editor of the Tribune, but I am concerned by this story, and the follow up posts.
First, I hope all involved get dealt with fairly, and I pray the individual, who sustained such severe injuries has a speedy and full recovery.
With that said, did this incident happen at a diner or a strip club, excuse me-gentlemen’s club? There is a gentlemen’s club in Yonkers known as City Lights HTHIS IS THE ESTABLISHED I REFER TO), and a diner in White Plains known as City Limits (NOT THE DINER).
As far as the story of the incident and the follow ups, if five adult men pummeled another adult for no good reason, or actually for just about any reason at all, that is wrong. However, the fact that the story has devolved so quickly down to the possibility of this being a one punch knock out(no humor intended), makes me question the integrity of the source and the initial details of the story.
It is quite easy for two adult males to find themselves getting into a physical altercation, especially if alcohol is involved. Albeit adolescent, it does happen. Whether either individual involved is a Yonkers firefighter or not, doesn’t change the situation.
I recently saw an article on the Tribune defending the Mayor of Mt. Vernon against the charges, actually let’s call them accusations, he is currently facing. It amazes me how easy it is for some to defend an individual, when the accusations against them are so extensive.
All in society should be held accountable for their actions, no matter who they are or what title or position they hold. The Mayor of Mt. Vernon, like this or these firefighters is an individual, who is in a position of public trust. One may be able to spin it into a bigger story, based on that position, but each case should be decided on its merits and not on speculation.

  22. Very Sad

As a Yonkers taxpayers, I watched the budget meetings, I witnessed first hand the behavior of these firefighters and there leadership. I sympathize with these council members you have a thankless job dealing with these hotheads. These firefighters are public servants and they work for taxpayers, there behavior is unacceptable. Some of them feel they are above the law. I hope they lock them all up. If they are not running someone over they are punching them in the face.

  23. Pray for him and his family

Mitchel is garbage and the gang hanging with him is no better. A man was beaten here, we should respect his family at this time and pray for him. So instead of making excuses about who was there and who wasn’t, why don’t we make sure this man gets home to his family. A family I know and love. No firefighter condones this behavior. None.

  24. Pointing fingers

Typical Barry, blames others for the issues his union causes. I assume Barry is going to try to protect these terrible firefighters. Nick Spano is going to have you thrown out as Union Leaders. I wouldn’t be surprised if members call for a referendum any day now.

    1. Fed up

According to Barry he’s the most honest guy in this city! He’s very busy making sure that rapists and guys who work full time b job in construction wile out sick keep there jobs. I’m sure he’ll help these guys out.

    2. Fed up with fire

Barry is the most honest guy in this city according to him! He’s probably still busy defending the rapists and the guys working b job in co structuring wile out on sick leave. I’m sure he’ll help these guys keep their big salary’s at our expense too.

      1. Not acceptable

I read in lo hud that a FF was found guilty of sexual assault a few weeks ago. Is he still on paid time off? He should be fired.

  25. Can them all!

Speedy recovery to the patron involved! As for the assholes, fire them all,and let justice be served !
There is no way out, don’t start nothin, there won’t be nothin! POS Mitchell , it was inevitable. You love to speak of Fr. Mac , you f***en hypocrite . See ya !!!

    1. Smh

You love to name drop but won’t show yours. Stop expressing your feelings in public like a female and go speak to that man if you got to get something off your chest.

  26. Vinny Lies

Hezi you got bad information on this one. Was it Vinny Spano again? This very unfortunate incident was the result of one punch from one individual, not five. This will be borne out soon when an arrest is made. It is unfortunate that certain individuals continually provide false information to you in an attempt to slander the Yonkers Fire Department, especially when a tragic event such as this has happened.

My sources advise there were 5 Fire Fighters in attendance. It only takes one punch, even if unknowingly unintended to cause a concussion. If one is to consider this assault was caused by one person, how could it even have been allowed to escalate where, even i only one punch took place, the other four buddies could not deescalate the confrontation from reaching such intensity. If Vinny is all knowing on such matters, next time something happens I will call him first. based on what you say, it will be easier to get ahead of other media by at least 3 hours today. thanks for sharing Vinny’s “knowing” such things. Perhaps if you would have call the Yonkers Tribune, as you suggest, I would have gotten the story “correctly” as you infer. Alas, you did not call. perhaps next time. But you must remember there is another aspect to what I do at the Yonkers Tribune, that is, I check my sources. I am sticking to my sources.

Sounds like they’ll save a few jobs after they can these animals who don’t know how to act.

A lieutenant ? Really guys. What a shame to the rest of the YFD and the city of yonkers.

    5. John Flynn Must Go

When a woman died in a fire John flynn was quick to run to the TV cameras and say that this woman is dead because of Mayor Spano and the closure of the Fire Headquarters at chicken Island. I remember him saying that that woman could have been saved. Using a woman’s death is disgusting. YET, where is John Flynn now?? Not getting up to denounce the actions of this Fire LT. who put a man in a coma. Sad. Very sad.

And what about Barry denouncing the actions of this former probation all FF. If he’s off the job then he no longer protects the FF. So denounce his actions.

These two Fire Dept. Union leaders are pathetic. They protect their families with volunteer fire fighters in Ardsley and Ossining yet rape the Yonkers taxpayer to the tune of $100 million a year. Disgusting.
