WHITE PLAINS, NY – August 5, 2018 — Over two dozen applicants were interviewed to serve as Westchester County Public Safety Commissioner, including the maligned Yonkers Police Chief John Mueller who thankfully did not make the grade. Commissioner Gleason previously served as County Police Inspector.

Commissioner Gleason advised, “As a member of this great department for more than 35 years. I think my appointment sends a message to all the men and women of the department, whether it’s the newest rookie or the most senior veteran officer on the job, that they can aspire to lead this great department.”

Former Mount Vernon Police Commissioner and Chief of Investigation  for the Office of the Westchester County District Attorney Terrance Raynor was sworn in as Westchester County Public Safety Deputy Commissioner.

The appointments are the most recent appointments by Westchester County Executive George Latimer.

How many times did I read rumors and speculations about who I was going to appoint in these comments? How many times did people assert conspiracy theories to me? Relatives! Hacks!

Now I promote from within the dept a respected professional.

I travel around the county without fancy police escort. I go everywhere but very low key. I just want to do a job, clean up messes and restore a little faith that some of us are regular joes.

Remember that the next time somebody asserts something outrageous.

Tom Gleason was a Yonkers native who had worked long and hard for the Westchester County Police Department. This is a well deserved honor.
