Robertson Contends Mayor Misstated Facts, Misleads the Public, and Uses City Funds for Self Promotion

YONKERS,
NY – January 29, 2007 — “At a time when Yonkers is experiencing an
unprecedented surge of gang violence and when even an off duty Police Capitan
has been assaulted while taking an evening walk, its outrageous for Mayor
Amicone to spend city dollars on a self-promotional mailer that does nothing to
make Yonkers safer,” said Dennis Robertson, Co-Budget Chair, and Third District
Council Representative.

ne.comMayoral
contender Dennis Robertson put Mayor Philip Amicone on notice that the he will
not tolerate the use of City funds for personal self promotion.  Residents
received a glossy campaign style mailer last week from the Mayor’s
office. Councilmember Robertson pointed out the following misstatements of
facts that are contained in the Mayor’s promotional mailing:

“The
size of the
Yonkers police
force increased by 20 not 30 officers.  10 of the new oficers hired
replaced retiring personnel and did not increase the size of the force.
The Mayor did not propose money to increase the police force in his last
budget.  The money that the City Council allocated to hire new police
officers was put into the budget over the objections of the Mayor.  The
Mayor waited months to use the money before finally acting to bolster the
police force,” Robertson emphasized.

”It
is outrageous for Mayor Amicone to spend city dollars on a self promotional
mailer that does nothing to make
Yonkers safer,”
said Councilman Robertson. “The Mayor ought to tell us how much he spent, how
this mailing benefited the City, to whom it was mailed, and why it was mailed at
this time,” demanded Mr. Robertson.

Robertson
said he would ask the City Council to consider legislation that would stop
further waste of the people’s money on such mailings.  “Any politician who
wants to promote themselves should use their own money to do it; the people’s
money should not be used for self-promotion,” concluded Councilman Robertson.

Robertson
will additionally request an opinion from the Inspector General, as to whether
or not the taxpayer money that was used for this mailer should be returned.

  1. I agree that Amicone was stupid in sending the postcard out, but the democrats should be careful. The “informational mailings” that Lesnick sends out to puff himself up are no better.

  2. Doran? Are you kidding? As a judge he’s been the “Turn ‘Em Loose Goose” of Yonkers. His record of coddling criminals is appalling. He has rarely met an accused felon he didn’t like. And that includes just last week.
Doran could have been the inspiration for Monopoly’s “Get Out of Jail Free” card.

  3. To the poster, “since when is crime down” you need to go to the Amiphony Road Show and hear it for yourself. Otherwise stay out there in ignorance.

  4. I am usually not a fan of Denis and his smirking in your face approach to working with the community but he is spot on when he decries this campaign piece (so very obviously one) as a misuse (and a serious one) of tapayer funds. And to boot lies to make Amicone looks good. Mayor Doran will change the territory to one of dignity and fair play.

  5. Since when is crime down? According to the last released stats, for every group of crime that decreased, there was one on the increase. I guess it’s been awhile since your car was keyed on your Crestwood street.

  6. It’s a big city…crime happens. That’s unfortunate, but it happens in every city.
As for Robertson, he’ll never withstand the onslaught about his no-bid contracts and “consulting” deals that were handed to him by his friend John Spencer. He’ll never stay afloat, not even in a Lesnick canoe on Sprain Lake.

  7. Here it is in a nutshell:
Amicone goes around the city at his so-called townhall meeting claiming crime is down Yonkers is one of the safest cities in the US.
Then He hires 30 more cops. Why, if crime is going down no need to hire more cops. But this is part of illogical Yonkers. An election is also coming up.
Robertson and McLaughlin get in on the act and ok the money to hire more cops in an era when crime is diminishing. All of the Silly Council follow suit, must play up the public safety aspect and ignore the huge increase in municipal budget.
Amicone is running for re-election and uses public funds to promote himself.
Robertson, who now fancies himself as Mayoral material is suddenly fiscally responsible and is jealous of the Mayors mailing. Robertson interestingly enough never had any issue witht eh Mayors mailing of November 06 regarding the charter referenda’s
Summary bothare wrong: Amicone should not be allowed to use public funds to promote something that happened last year and was all over the local media. 336 MORE DAYS OF THE AMACAHONES LEFT.
Robertson is wrong because he is not sincere. If he was he would take offense wit hall of these situations. HE WOULD ALSO GET THE IRONY OF HIRING MORE POLICE AS IS PLAYED OUT IN DECREASING CRIME STATISTICS.
I WOULD NOT BE SURPRISED IF BOTH OF THESE ARE ALSO HIRING MORE FIREFIGHTERS IN THE BLOATED YFD, BEFORE THE ELECTION.

  8. A report to the people would have been one thing that was a campaign piece, mark my words “Doing what right for Yonkers” will be the theme for Amicone’s campaign, and he used a prime voters list to send the mail, my wife got one under her maiden name our house and taxes are under my name!! This Amicone is finished. I can’t wait for a good democrat to get into office and stop this republican crime machine.

  9. Robertson is like a worm trying to break through the surface of the ground to get himself some attention.
Like many worms, he will become bird food.

  10. REPORT TO THE CITY …STANDARD
OPERATING PROCEDURE..ASK JOHN SPENCER, ROBERTSON’S GOOD FRIEND
    ESPECIALLY IN AN ELECITON YEAR..
ALSO TAKE A LOOK AT ROBERTSONS
MAILING TO HIS DISTRICT WHEN HE RAN LAST TIME..PEOPLE WHO LIVE
    IN GLASS HOUSES…ETC.
BUT THE MAYOR SHOULD HAVE HIS
    STAFF CHECK FOR ACCURACY UNDER
    ANY CIRCUMSTANCES
