UPDATE as of 7:00 pm, September 14, 2009 – See Below:
Yonkers, NY — It was Saturday night when a Yonkers DPW crew damaged a gas pipeline that disrupted gas service to the waterfront, as well as shut off hot water, caused by damage to the water pipeline Con Edison had been called to replace the damaged pipeline. City hall did not respond to inquiries made of them about the incident. Con Edison was not forthcoming in their explanation as to what happened.
Elizabeth Clark, Con Edison spokesperson, conjectured that gas service would be restored by Tuesday. Hot water service, the purview of Commissioner John Liszewski, has not yet given any statement through any of City Hall's Communications officers.
Because damage was caused by city workers, Con Edison will hold Yonkers liable for the costs involved.
Councilwoman Patricia McDow, D-1st District, advised that Con Edison required residents of buildings affected to give Con Edison access twice during the re-initiation of gas service to their building.
