Orange County Executive Ed Diana to Challenge Gillibrand
Yonkers, NY — May 5, 2010 — Orange County Executive Edward Diana is likely to make an official announcement of his candidacy against present incumbant U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. There are are already three announced challengers for Senator Gillibrand’s seat. Those who have announced include Bruce Blakeman, former state comptroller candidate; Joseph DioGuardi, former congressman; and David Malpass, an economist.Today, there are three Republican candidates running against Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand. By the end of the week, there will be four. Adding weight and gravitas to Mr Diana’s soon-to-be-announced candidacy is State Republican Chair Ed Cox personal encouraged of Mr Diana to run for this office.
“They each have their strengths,” Cox said. “His strength is he’s recently run for office, as a very successful county exec in Orange County, one of the fastest growing counties in New York State.”
Mr Diana has advised that a decision is imminent.
“I’m talking to my closest advisors,” Diana said. “It has to be the right decision at the right time.”
He did say, though, that his background as a county executive, legislator, business owner and educator could distinguish him from the pack.
“Any time I take on something of this magnitude, whether it be county executive or legislator, I must feel that I will make a difference,” Diana said. “I think I have something that potentially people could relate to.”
