YPD_patch  Yonkers, NY, June 29, 2010 –‭ Yonkers Police Department Street Crime Unit has recently conducted an undercover operation into the sale of illegal firearms. This operation which lasted several months was supervised by Sergeant Louis Papaleo under the command of First Deputy Chief Charles Gardner. The Street Crime Unit worked in conjunction and received assistance from:

‭•    The FBI Violent Crime Task Force headed by SSA Edward McCabe.

‭•    The Westchester County District Attorneys Office along with Assistant D.A. Thomas Luzio and Patrick Moore.

‭•    The US Attorneys Office Sothern District of New York directed by AUSA Margery Feinzig and AUSA David Bloom.

YPD_rivera,anthony The investigation led to a 21 count sealed indictment of two (2) brothers Gustavo Rivera (left) and Anthony Rivera (right) of 185 Valentine Lane, Yonkers NY 10705. This indictment includes:

‭•    Both defendants indicted on five (5) counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree. 

‭•    Both defendants indicted on five (5) counts of Criminal Sale of a Firearm 3rd degree.

‭•    Gustavo Rivera indicted on four (4) counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree.

‭•    Anthony Rivera indicted on five (5) counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd degree.

‭•    Gustavo Rivera indicted on Criminal Possession Stolen Property 4th degree.

‭•    Antony Rivera indicted on four (4) counts Criminal Possession Stolen Property 4th degree.

‭•    Both defendants indicted on one (1) count of Conspiracy 4th degree. 

‭Anthony Rivera is facing on the weapons charges alone a minimum of 28 years and a

‭maximum of 60 years. He was arraigned on 6-29-10 and was remanded without bail. 

‭Gustavo Rivera is facing on the weapons charges alone a minimum of 21 years and 

‭a maximum of 45 years. He was arraigned on 6-24-10 and given $150,000 bail or bond.

‭Both suspects remain at the Westchester County Jail at this time.

‭The Street Crime Unit recovered a number of firearms during this investigation including:

‭****One stolen .357 magnum handgun with six .357rounds. 

‭****One pistol grip shotgun with nine .410 rounds.

‭****One defaced 12 gauge/sawed off shotgun with eight rounds.

‭****One .32 caliber handgun with six .32 caliber rounds.

‭****One stolen AK-47 assault rifle with forty 7.62 rounds.

‭****One .40 cal handgun w/ nine rounds.

  1. Great job by SCU. I wish they would come out to the east side and address the larceny from auto incidents occuring just about every night here in all residential neighborhoods. It has been going on for too long and both precinct’s manpower levels are too low.

Great work getting guns off the streets. all the shootings in Yonkers OBVIOUSLY wouldn’t happen if guns weren’t readily available as a criminal enterprise. the Mayor is part of Bloomberg’s initiabives to rid urban areas of illegal weapons possessions. Many of these guns are obtained illegally in the South and brought up North for “distribution.”

  3. Wow that’s a great job! And done all by those Chiefs, Sgt.’s, D.A.’s and FBI Supervisors. It’s amazing there were no cops or detectives involved. Shameless press release.
