McLaughlin_Liam headshotYONKERS, NY, July 23, 2010 — Liam McLaughlin, the Republican candidate for New York State Senate (District 35), called on his opponent, Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins to vote down the tax being placed on hedge funds. Mr McLaughlin, labeling his opponent an “anti-business liberal”, said this is the breaking point that will drive the hedge funds out of the state costing New Yorkers THOUSANDS of jobs. This bill has even drawn the displeasure of Mayor Bloomberg who said “we should be making this a more attractive place to do business, but the state is not doing their job.” “Just when you think the New York Senate couldn’t do anything worse for the business community,” Mr McLaughlin emphasized, “think again!!”

Liam McLaughlin said “How many industries is this Legislature going to vilify. It’s not enough that our state has the highest taxes in the country, but now our Legislature is forcing companies to relocate out of state because of their tax policies. Does the New York State Legislature want to BANKRUPT the state? Christmas came early for Connecticut and New Jersey and it came wrapped in a bow from Shelly Silver and John Sampson.”

“The fact that the Legislature is doing this is a shame to the hard working citizens of New York. The financial services industry is the lifeblood of New York State,” continued Mr McLaughlin. “There is no doubt that these hedge funds will move out of New York, taking with them jobs and sorely needed tax revenue from New York. Governor M. Jodi Rell has already begun the process of soliciting hedge funds to relocate to Connecticut. When will this Legislature WAKE UP! Our state has the highest taxes in the nation, we should be grateful that these companies that employ thousands of people have stayed in New York. This new tax will allow them to finally agree that New York is not friendly to businesses.” Mr McLaughlin concluded, “If this tax passes, New York will no longer be the Empire State when it comes to doing business in the United States.”

  1. Liam is right on the money, we cannot afford to lose jobs to other states. It is simple common sense.
Meanwhile, back at Lord & Taylors, I mean the ranch, I hear Ms. Scarf is in a panic because the Govenor is ordering the Senate back in session next Wed to do work (gasp) to try and pass the four-month late budget (ie their job). This is in the middle of the final 75% off clearance at L&T and she is missing the bargains at the scarf counter. At least she will have her travel expenses paid for!

  2. TELL THAT TO FILL, WHO AND THE REPUBLICANS WHO SOCKED US WITH A HUGE TAX INCREASE. HE’S DOING THE SAME THING SENDING JOBS AND PEOPLE TO LIVE IN CT. LOOK AT PROPERTY TAXES IN CT. AND COMPARE TO NY.
AS FOR LAME, CONTINUE TO ELECTIONEER JUST LIKE YOUR BUDDY ROBERTSON.

  3. You’re kidding right?….He couldn’t keep businesses in the 4th district… the gas station on Yonkers and Kimball is still an eyesore.

  4. McLaughlin is EXACTLY what this district needs! A CPA & attorney who knows the importance of creating and NOT losing jobs in NYS.
