YPD_patch Ruggiero_Michael Yonkers, NY, August 22, 2010 — Yonkers Deputy DPW Commissioner Michael Ruggiero crashed a city owned SUV in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, in October of 2003. The report was hushed up until it made the headlines in January 200. Mr Ruggiero had departed a Hastings bar in a drunken stupor. He was driving in a southerly direction in the SUV towards Yonkers. Police found him crashed into a telephone pole. Prior to smashing into a telephone pole, against which he totaled the vehicle, he damaged a few cars along Washington Street. The City of Yonkers (CoY) was not reimbursed the cost of the car he crashed, nor the suit filed and won against CoY. Mr Ruggiero was enrolled in a detox program and recieved counseling operated by CoY He had pleaded guilty to the offense at that time. This reporter remembers Mr Ruggiero’s alcohol level was judged to be three times the legal limit at that time. This Sunday, August 22, 2010, Yonkers Tribune has learned Mr Ruggiero was again picked up by Yonkers Police and arrested for DWI. Reports will be further divulged after information is revealed to the Yonkers Tribune Monday morning by spokesperson Det. Sgt. Patrick McCormack.

  1. Hey Mayor Amicone – Fire this proven asshole and let’s move on. His resume says enough. He does not deserve his position. If you are charitable, let him & his liver hang on the back of a garbage truck for the typical 2 hours a day with the rest of Yonkers Laziest.

  2. hey morons, nobody drinking on the job, then why are snow plows always parked in front of nugents and in the lakers club ??? Get a clue guys, people don’t forget the nonsense you pulled in the a few months ago and when your christmas tip is a few extra bags of garbage — TOO BAD

  3. no one ia looking for sympathy – just the truth. Unfortunately, when you are impared or intoxicated you aren’t capable of making sound decisions. Anyone with half a brain knows that. Alcohol addiction is a DISEASE. Some people never recover. I wonder how many of you have bih fat bellies from overeating. That’s a disease too. Get your facts straight before you judge someone else.

  4. The fact is that he got behind the wheel of a motor vehicle either impaired or intoxicated -so you get no sympathy here and to make matters worse this is his second time .

  5. YES if you people are going to write here please know the truth. Mike was a garbage man for many years before being promoted. In reply to boozed up, garbagemen get tested randomly by the DOT for alcohol and drugs. There is no one drinking on the job currently. Go back 30 years ago and perhaps you would have that when there were no DOT laws regarding drinking or drug testing. Please know the facts before you post.

  6. Mike was a garbage man for several years. He did, in fact, pay for the one car he destroyed. If you are going to write stuff about someone, it should be the truth.

  7. Have you seen some of the people who work for DPW ? If you didn’t allow people with DUI, DWI and DWAI arrests and or convictions to drive city vehicles then you wouldn’t have a DPW force. I’d be more concerned about the large garbage trucks that are always parked outside the lakers club on lake avenue … I’m sure they aren’t in there having a sandwich, I’m sure its more like a sandwich and a six pack, and then drive a garbage truck, real smart

  8. The city is knowingly allowing a individual who has drunk driving and a DUI arrest, to drive a city vehicle and if he kills or disables someone for life,we the taxpayers will have to pay huge sums of money out.The politicians and union officials who cover for the drunk city employee pay nothing.

  9. This guy is a politcal appointtee and never worked his way up from the job as garbageman which is the b.s. story floated previously by city hall.
Why was he not required to personally pay for the city vehicle he destroyed??? What did this one cost the taxpayers please???
    Fed Up

  10. First off he’s not a commissioner but manager of the sanitation dept. The article says he was arrested for DUI not DWI so I am not sure if a DUI conviction is a felony. There are two DPW commissioners at the present time. There used to be three under the Spencer admin. Lets not push him under the bus…there are many people who get arrested for this and they do not have a problem…just a bad decision they made before they turned the key.

  11. HE MUST BE ANOTHER AMICLOWN BROWN NOISER TO KEEP HIS JOB DID HE TOTAL ANOTHER CITY CAR EITHER WAY 2 DWI WHATS THAT A FELONY LET HIM TAKE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
HIS LIC SHOULD BE SUSPENDED FOR 10 YRS AND IF FOUND GUILTY BE FIRED AND FORCED TO PAY FOR DAMAGES NO RETRICTED LIC EITHER

  12. Now that would be an interesting FOIL. How many COY vehicles were wrecked due to DWI or DUI? Of Ruggiero alone there has probably been 4. How many were covered up?? Only the workers at the DPW garage really know
