Yonkers, NY, August 18, 2010 — Yonkers Police Department spokesperson Det. Sgt. Patrick McCormack called Yonkers Tribune's editor Hezi Aris late this afternoon to advise of inaccuracies gleaned after his reading The Hezitorial: Using the Police for Political Purpose BY Hezi Aris published on August 17, 2010. The most egregious issue was Det. Sgt. McCormack’s contention that Captain John Mueller did not head the investigation of an incident of the alleged theft of a clipboard of petitions from the person of Joseph Dalli, a campaign worker for New York State Assembly candidate Mike Ramondelli allegedly by Julio Sofia, a campaign worker for New York State Assemblyman Mike Spano, as well as a friend of his nephew. Det. Sgt McCormack advised that two general assignment detectives who routinely handle felonies were assigned the task of investigating the allegations, not Capt. Mueller. Det. Sgt. McCormack’s assertion regarding the detectives assigned to the case is contrary to the investigative work corroborated by the editor’s effort. Even so, the Yonkers Tribune appreciates the pertinence of giving the YPD equal access and time to refute the veracity of The Hezitorial.
The credibility of Yonkers Tribune’s sources are such that it was and remains irrefutable in the editor’s mind, albeit contrary to Det. Sgt. McCormack’s assertion.
Another concern, is that of The Hezitorial questioning whether there is proof to tie the alleged perpetrator to the grand larceny allega. The Yonkers Tribune editor was thinking of video, audio, photos, and/or eye witnesses. Det. Sgt. McCormack advises that the Westchester County District Attorney’s Yonkers Office had surmised there was probable cause and therefore continued their search for Mr Sofia.
The editor will not in good conscience, and with all due respect, question the integrity and veracity of his corroborating sources that advised of "Mueller" heading the investigation. I use the name “Mueller” without disrespect, but rather to point out that I remembered “Mueller” to be a Lieutenant, yet upon notice by Det. Sgt. McCormack, and reflection, remembered that “Mueller” is indeed a Captain. My apology to you Captain Mueller.
On the issue of two detectives rather than Captain Mueller investigating the allegation, the editor of the Yonkers Tribune accepts the YPD’s assertion but will not refute evidence to the contrary through sources he will not and did not divulge.
