  1. Hi all. This is your girl Lorraine Lopez, live from the fest!
Waiting for my buddy Ray-gun, I’m sure he’s got some goood boooze in his car! He loves to drink n drive.
Betcha dollars for donuts if i suck him, i’ll get *another* raise!!
    ha ha
    you shmucks

  2. I know a family in East Yonkers who lost a beloved son on 9/11.
He was the son that every parent wanted – a regular guy, with a normal family of his own and two small children.
He just happended to be seated at one of the windows where the first plane struck the north tower. No sign of him was ever found.
The family is totally distraught, devestated.
They live within earshot of the fireworks to be set off tonight to “celebrate” Riverfest.
I’m sure they won’t be in the mood for your celebration as they listen. Surely thay will be deeply hurt by your celebration.
That’s only one family. Imagine how many others will be offended by the “celebration”
    Insensitive? Surely.

  3. It would be fine to go shopping after an appropriate memorial.
Don’t hang around for fireworks and booze and free food to CELEBRATE the River on a day when it is inappropriate to do so.
You people are dumb and worse yet you defend and justify it.

  4. i believe it was president bush who said after
9/11 that the american public should go shopping
we cannot let 9/11 stultify our lives…their
will be a memorial service and then riverfest..they
are not celebrating 9.11 they are simply not
canceling the rest of our daily events and caving
into the terrorists by acting like they have accomplished something…

  5. What friggin asshole came up with this day for a celebration?
If the cops had balls(?), they would kick back the OT and let the second floor handle the shootings on the river.

  6. It’s no secret the DWBID is a developer controlled–extended arm of the mayor’s agenda.
Just ask any legit business not propped up by Pinto and company what they think.

  7. What does BID stand for in Yonkers?
    BUSINESSES IN DECLINE!
What does Steve Sansone Do as BID Director?
    He watches Businesses Decline
What does Riverfest do for any of the businesses on the downtown?
    NADA!

  8. bingo!
    taxpayer funded
    developer controlled
    etc etc.
    non-profit? i don’t think so.
we pay for nothing many times over.
all of the BID’s effort is in front of city sponsored (and subsidized) developer projects and restaurants.
it appears Sansone is not the community activist he would like everyone to believe.

  9. To anon at 11:32am: The BID may be a non-profit but it operates from taxes levied on downtown property owners. What has it done for them lately? Ribbon-cuttings? Films that close streets and generate sales of a few slices of pizza? Ditto for the music on the waterfront? The BID does no heavy lifting. And if anyone’s looked lately, the streets are filthy. And anyone who draws the shortcomings of this short-fall organization are always branded as “haters.” typical Yonkers bureaucratic response to any legitimate criticisms. One of these days, visit the downtown. Go into any business and ask them what the BID’s done for them lately. Dollars to donuts, they won’t even know what the BID is other than a garbage collector who sends them a bill every month for the service.

  10. Have a riverfest, yet the city is reportedly going to lay off 50 teamsters come january. They should lay off that capt Fara. Did anybody check out his salary? Talk about wasting money.

  11. THEY SAID THIS BEING FUNDED THROUGH PRIVATE DONATIONS
ARE THEY PAYING FOR THE EXTRA COPS THAT ARE GOING TO BE THERE ON OT ARE THEY GOING TO BE THERE TO CLEAN UP THE MESS LEFT BEHIND OR IS THE DPW GOING TO BE WORKING LIKE THEY ALWAY DO
UNLESS THE PERMIT FOR THE RIVERFEST IS BEING PAID BY PRIVATE MONEY IT SHOULD NOT HAPPEN
THEY COY SAID THEY HAVE NO MONEY OK THAN WHERE ARE THEY GETTING IT FOR THIS EVENT

  12. HEY PEOPLE…WHY DIDN’T THESE ‘PRIVATE INVESTORS’ FUND A JULY 4TH CELEBRATION TO COMMEMORATE OUR INDEPENDENCE?!!! WHO NEEDS RIVER FEST OR ANYTHING ELSE, WHEN WE DIDN’T EVEN CELEBRATE OUR OWN COUNTRY.

  13. If we sit around on that day then terrorist win…they are have a memorial service in the morning to remember the people who had fallen on that day.. the city of yonkers doesn’t fund the riverfest, the BID gets sponsors and raises money to fund it.. They are a non-profit organization.. they try their hardest to improve downtown yonkers..they do Tuesday night movies, friday night jazz, all sponsored by local merchants of yonkers. You all have no right to bash an organization that’s trying to improve yonkers..without them the square would be dirty, people would be lying dead on the side of the road…
I know that riverfest is on 9/11 but when 9/11 falls on a weekday do they cancel school??? no they dont so dont be mad at the BID be mad at the government for not making it a national holiday.. take you anger out on the president…THANK YOU!!!

  14. Man this town is kookier than a belview hospital patient. No 4th July to pay tribute to the country we live in. But we have riverfest to pay tribue to all of the MONEY MAYOR AMMICONE has thrown away of ours. That is, in a nut shell, what riverfest is. Now that 9/11 is on same day…No tribute this soon to be brought up on federal charges MAYOR can say through that ugly beard that could make Yonkers feel consoled on such a historical day for us. And as far as hating on Yonkers….tell me, whats not to hate?

  15. 9/11 will always be a day of remembrance, but we can’t ignore life. The terrorists win if we stop living because of the heinous act they did.
And Yonkers Riverfest will also observe Patriot Day (Day of Service and Remembrance) to honor the memory of the victims of 9/11. In keeping with the President’s proclamation urging Americans to participate in community service activities, volunteers of all ages from various Yonkers downtown groups will assist with the many Riverfest program activities throughout the day.
There are events going on all over the Hudson Valley on Saturday.
    So stop your hating.

  16. Why are the posters on this blog so negative and such complainers? A not-for-profit like the BID does nothing, and you complain. It does something good for the downtown businesses, and you complain. Check out the crowds that go to the free jazz concerts supported by the business community – NOT tax dollars from City Hall. Check out the crowds that go to the free films supported by the business community – NOT tax dollars from City Hall. Check out Riverfest this Saturday supported by the business community – NOT tax dollars from City Hall.
All of these events add vitality to the downtown, get people into the stores, make the streets feel safer.
Oh..I forgot: you complainers are just shut-ins or never go downtown so you don’t know nothing about what is actually happening.
Easy to bitch and complain than try to improve things, right?

  17. I thought Riverfest was supposed to be on 9/18. The Yonkers Marathon is always the day after Riverfest and that’s on 9/19. What numbskull changed the date so Yonkers is the only community in NY that is having a street festival on 9/11? This is a disgrace and this alone should be grounds for disbanding the do-nothing BID. Whoops – sorry – it does do some things like music, films that you can watch the same day on cable, music, street festivals on solemn days of remembrance, music, ribbon cuttings, music, and oh yeah, music. I’m sure the property owners are just thrilled that they’re being taxed for music, music, music.

  18. I too got the robo call. What is the point of having your number on the no call list if they are going to ignore it? Who paid for that? What a waste of money. Is this where my tax dollars go?

  19. A few hours ago I got a robo call from City Hall about this – on Rosh Hashanah. Would they do that on Christmas eve? Could they not have done tha calls on Tuesday? How insensitive. – And who paid for the calls?

  20. yep they cancel the 4th of july and have a party on 9/11. this is an outrage.
maybe the developer and mayor run BID board will be to there to tell us what a great job they’ve done.
the BID is a City Hall scam and should be shutdown.
    Bring Tomatoes

  21. Supposed to be a solemn day and they are having a party? There are no “fests” on 9/11. The person who chose that day is heartless and not too much of a patriot. Horrific decision on the city’s part.
