Bronxville, NY, September 29, 2010 — The National Weather Service has issued a wind and flood advisory for Westchester County from 11:00 pm Thursday through 6:00am Friday. the potential exists for winds in excess of 40 mph and rainfallamounts greater than six inches in some locations. the BronxvillePolice Department and Public Works Department is prepared to respond in the event of flooding and wind damage within the Village of Bronxville.
Now is the time to secure items in your yard that can blow away and cause damage or injury to pedestrians. in the event of downed wires or fallen trees it is important that you do not move or come into contact with any of the debris until it has been cleared by police/fire/DPW/Con Ed officials. Do not drive into locations that are flooded as swift rising flood waters can quickly disable your vehicle and leave you in need of a rescue. If you live in a flood prone area move valuable personal items from the basement or lower level of your home to a safer location. in the event of a power failure refrain from opening your refrigerator to safeguard against food loss and if using a generator be sure to not have it contained in the garage of your home to prevent deadly exhaust from entering your home.
We will closely monitor the situation throughout the day on Thursday and into Friday and will issue further alerts if warranted.
