White Plains, NY — February 18, 2011 — Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore today announced that Kai Irwin (DOB 06/08/65) of 30 Candlewood Drive, Yonkers, New York, has been charged by Felony Complaint with:
• one count of Grand Larceny in the Second Degree, a class “C” Felony.
Between August 1, 2007, and September 30, 2008, the defendant, who was the Secretary-Treasurer of the Uniformed Fire Officers Association of the Yonkers Fire Department, stole approximately $97,000 from the Union’s General Fund.
The UFOA is the City of Yonkers Fire Officers Union and maintained its General Fund at Wachovia (now Wells Fargo) Bank.
The defendant, a Lieutenant in the Yonkers Fire Department, had signatory authority for the fund and perpetrated the larceny by making counter withdrawals, debit card withdrawals and ATM withdrawals from the fund without the permission, consent or authority of the union or its membership.
The larceny and financial discrepancies were uncovered when a new Secretary -Treasurer took over the position in 2010.
“As alleged in the complaint, this defendant took advantage in his capacity as Treasurer of the Yonkers Fire Department’s Uniformed Fire Officers Association to steal nearly $100,000 for his own personal gain," said District Attorney Janet DiFiore after the defendant was arraigned. “Lt. Irwin was placed in a position of trust and responsibility, yet he repeatedly stole funds from his fellow union members who rely on their elected officers to ensure union democracy, financial integrity, and transparency.”
The defendant was released on his own recognizance.
Irwin’s next court appearance will be on March 3rd, 2011.
The defendant faces a maximum of fifteen years in state prison.
Assistant District Attorney Shara Abraham of the Public Integrity Bureau is prosecuting the case.
In compliance with Disciplinary Rule 7-107A of the Code of Professional Responsibility, you are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

Concerned Union member!!!!!!!!!
And man do I LOVE that mug shot. He just looks so miserable! Priceless!
Hey! A lot of us have been VERY vocal about our outrage at these pricks! I don’t think they’re going to be reassigned either. That would create overtime & we know how sensitive you all are to overtime!
Gas Boy is currently assinged to polish all of Fatsy Fitzpatricks toys down at his Special Operations Toy Store. Notice how none of the YFD Goodfellas have anything to say about this thief. Interesting that they all keep silent when one of their own is caught with his hands in their own cookee jar. Remember, Gas Boy and this Union Crook will not be punished, they will be reassigned to Special Ops.
He should have stole from the taxpayers. That would have been swept under the rug but stealing from the Union will get you arrested
Dont worry about Gas Boy- You will be hearing about that shortly!!!!
Does anyone know about all the police activity at the Fire Headquarters today? Did Pagano have to callfor police protection because he might have to make a decision about Irwin or the gas guy or the guys that never show up for work. What happened??
he’s on the short list for commissioner
What is his status,is he off the job??suspended without pay ??? He still can’t be working, oh wait this is Yonkers. Nevermind.
His father paid back the money and Irwin left the job with his pension intact. Seriously!? He was on probation for a short period and that was pretty much it, sad to say. I’d like to know what he did with all that money… anyone know?
