Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore announced that Dean Martin (DOB 04/27/68) of 23 Water Grant Street, Yonkers, New York, was arraigned today on a 36 count Indictment charging him with:
• twelve counts of Falsifying Business Records in the First Degree, class “E” Felonies,
• three counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, class “A” Misdemeanors,
• one count of Forcible Touching, a class “A” Misdemeanor,
• three counts of Sex Abuse in the Third Degree, “B” Misdemeanors,
The defendant, a computer teacher at Saunders High School, a City of Yonkers Public School, over a four and one half year period between September 05, 2005 and January 27th, 2010, on multiple occasions, logged on to the school’s computer system and accessed the academic records of a number of students.
As the SASI (Student Administrative Student Information) administrator, the defendant had unfettered access to the transcripts and attendance records of all students in the school.
The defendant changed student’s grades and Regent test scores to reflect higher grades than were actually achieved by the individual students.
The defendant also adjusted the attendance records of other students erasing absences from their official transcripts, to aid in gaining their trust, isolate and molest them.
“As the indictment alleges, this defendant used his position as a teacher and authority figure to coerce students under his charge. In exploiting his ability to adjust grades, test scores and attendance, he compelled and manipulated students into visiting him outside of class, solely to fulfill his own agenda with no regard to what his actions would have on these students or their classmates,” said District Attorney Janet DiFiore after the defendant ‘s arraignment.
Bail was continued at $25,000 Bond over $15,000 cash.
Temporary orders of protection were issued in favor of his victims.
His next court appearance will be on July 19th, 2011.
The defendant faces a maximum of seven years in state prison on the top counts of the indictment.
Assistant District Attorney Michelle Lopez, Deputy Chief of the Sex Crimes Bureau, and Assistant District Attorney Brian Conway, Deputy Chief of the Public Integrity Bureau will prosecute the case.
