Amicone_Phil Spreckman_Bernice Astorino_Rob-approved photo Yonkers Mayor Phil Amicone (left) and Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino (right) have allegeldy "politically beaten up" the defenseless Westchester County Legislator Bernice Spreckman. Can you believe these two burly men have to hide in a backroom to get their way.

The squeeze is on. Can you believe how quickly time flies?  It was only on May 1, 2011, when the Yonkers Tribune boldly reported that Westchester County Bernice Spreckman who has represented the 14th District for almost a decade and a half would not run. Acid-tongued bloggers learned Bernice no longer had the resiliency to bounce back from her horrific travail, with her husband Harry and their friends when their cruise ship suffered loss of power, and they were all marooned off the California coast. The burden of shouldering responsibility for all the people who joined her on that cruise was a gargantuan responsibility she ably rose to shoulder. Upon reaching shore, she would eventually come to realize it would be best to depart politics and instead focus on a less hectic schedule and  family and friends. Despite her resolve to depart politics, acid-tongued bloggers would come to learn that Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino would have none of it.
The Yonkers Tribune’s telling of her plans to relinquish her seat brought to light former Yonkers City Councilman Liam McLaughlin’s interest in succeeding her. County Executive Astorino, with the support of Yonkers Mayor Phil Amicone wanted to deny Mr McLaughlin the likelihood of a winning campaign because of his formidable support in the district. Mr Astorino, egged on by the vindictive Mayor Amicone  forced Ms Spreckman’s hand. They demanded she run for another term. She capitulated after allegedly being told that were she to relinquish her office, her son would likely be demoted to the position he had prior to the “deal" made between Westchester County Chief of Staff George Oros and Harry Spreckman when Oros, at Astorino's behest, demanded Harry Spreckman vote his 13 1/2 weighted votes he controlled during the reorganization meeting of the Westchester County Conservative Ccommittee for the Hugh Fox Jr. challenging faction who would eventually prove victorious over the then incumbent Westchester County Conservative Committee Chairwoman Gail Burns. Harry Spreckman allegedly signed onto the backroom deal. The proof came to light after our report when Harry [the registered Conservative]and Bernice’s son got a higher paying job. With Mssrs Amicone and Astorino smarting at the thought of losing control of the 14th County Legislator District to Liam Mclaughlin, Bernice Spreckman today issued an advisory proclaiming “she will be making a very important announcement” on Thursday, May 12, 2011, at 10 a.m., located at 1373 Nepperhan Avenue, in Yonkers, NY.

Bernice Spreckman [registered republican] will announce she will seek office for another term. Don’t look for her to hit the campaign trail as she has in the past. She will practically sit this campaign out. Who can blame her. The Yonkers Tribune can only wish her the strength to suffer the games the boys play. In the end, it is all about family, the same “Family and Friends Network” who no longer earn Yonkersites’ respect.

Additionally, after winning reelection, Ms Spreckman will be permitted to step down sometime between January and March of 2012. Thereby bringing about a Special Election in the dead of Winter. Such a deal!

And so the stomach turns!

  1. Ladies and Gentlemen, would all of us not be much better off by not hiding and telling these people that we have hired (yes, ALL politicians and their appointees are OUR Employees) to stop engaging in anything less than the professional and morally appropriate behavior needed for the jobs we pay them to do? If not, how can we apply the laws designed to punish the actions that are constantly asserted against our employees? To this end, our employees have no fear of the law. These people whom bloggers disaparage either deservedly or undeservedly so, pay you no mind at all, because you are not real. The paradigm needs to be changed. If you must hide, you are not free or you are not credible and your words are relegated to idle gossip!

  2. mrs spreckman might be a nice lady but what has done for her district.? She spews nothing but hot air and is unable to point to anything substantive that she he accomplished for her district. Furthermore she is a one dimensional legislator with her calling card being that of her service to seniors but what about people who are not in that category-nada. Spreckman you had your run now let someone with new blood and ideas have a shot instead of the same ole nothing to report and nothing accomplished.

  3. Astorino threatened the job of Spreckman’s child. That’s fact, not spin. And I am neither a McLaughlin or Spreckman supporter. Facts are facts

  4. More Liam/Spencer BS spin. Spreckman was not egged on by anyone. In fact, the people were looking forward to her dropping out so they could drop the hammer on Liam for good. “popular in his district” You must have him confused with someone else. Liam is despised in many circles including by MANY in his old district.
