UPDATE 3 (SUN – 9:00 AM): The Office of Emergency Management is consolidating Yonkers' two storm shelters into one location in order to conserve volunteer resources and because demand is not that great. The Lincoln High School storm shelter is now closed (effective immediately) and residents there have been transferred to the PAL storm shelter via YFD bus. Residents who need shelter should go to the PAL shelter. If you need a ride call 914-377-8010. Yonkers total storm shelter population is presently 42 people. 

Con Edison has a manger stationed at the Yonkers Emergency Operations Center working with city departments to prioritize power outages and bring customers back online. Scattered outages continue to be reported. Overnight, customer outages peaked at 1,766. Most of those customers have been restored. Presently there are 353 customer outages in Yonkers citywide. More outages are expected with additional down wires. 

2 (SAT – 8:00PM): STORM SHELTERS ARE NOW OPEN AND AVAILABLE FOR ALL RESIDENTS. 

The storm shelters are staffed by city of Yonkers and Red Cross personnel. Each location has food, water and other necessities. Shelters are also stocked with cots and blankets.

UPDATE 1 (SAT – 4PM): All city parks & the Yonkers City Pier are now closed for the duration of the storm for residents' safety. The main concern is falling tree branches and potential flooding. Police patrols will instruct people to leave if they see anyone at city parks. 

STATE OF EMERGENCY DECLARED

Mayor Amicone has declared a state of emergency for the city of Yonkers, effective 12:01 p.m. Saturday, August 27 through 12:00 noon on Thursday, September 1. The purpose of the state of emergency declaration is to allow city personnel redeployments to deal with the weather situation and to keep main roadways clear for emergency service vehicles. INFORMATION LINES

IMPORTANT: 911 is only for emergency calls involving life-threatening situations.

General non-emergency calls and inquiries should be directed to 914-377-HELP (4357). Non-emergency police calls should be directed to 914-377-7900.

Con Edison outages and service calls should be directed to 1-800-75-CONED (1-800-752-6633) or 1-877-870-6118 or ConEd.com.

EMERGENCY OPERATIONS CENTER ACTIVATED

As of 2:00 p.m. on Friday, the city of Yonkers Emergency Operations Center (EOC) has been activated. The EOC is the city's headquarters for all storm emergency responses. In addition to all city agencies and departments, the EOC allows the city to coordinate emergency responses with state and local governments, local hospitals and relief agencies, and public utilities (ConEd). CLOSURES & CANCELLATIONS

All city parks facilities (except Coyne Park) and the Yonkers City Pier are closed for the duration of the storm.

All Yonkers Parks Department programs have been cancelled through Monday, August 29.

Office for the Aging home delivered meals have been cancelled for Sunday, August 28 and nutrition centers will be closed on Sunday as well. 

PUBLIC ADVISORIES

The public is strongly encouraged to stay indoors and avoid any travel during the storm from roughly Saturday evening at 8:00 p.m. through all day Sunday.

Residents are cautioned to stay out of city parks and areas with trees during the storm.

<>br Residents should avoid downed power lines. Any downed power lines should be considered live. Downed power lines should be reported to the Yonkers Police Department at 914-377-7900 and to Con Edison at 1-800-752-6633.

STORM EMERGENCY SHELTERS

The city of Yonkers in conjunction with the Red Cross has established two storm shelter locations equipped with emergency medical supplies and personnel and generator power. Storm shelters will be open at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday.

TRANSPORTATION & PARKING

Alternate side parking has been suspended for Saturday, August 27; Sunday August, 28; and Monday August 29.

Vehicles should be removed from low lying, flood prone areas. Emergency transportation and evacuation routes are as follows and are indicated with red and white signs.

3. West side of Riverdale Ave. from the city line north to Main St.
4. West side of South Broadway/Getty Square to the south city line.
5. South side of Ashburton Ave. from Warburton Ave. east to Yonkers Ave.
6. East side of Nepperhan Ave./South B'dway to Old Nepperhan Ave.
7. East side of Saw Mill River Rd./Ashburton Ave. north to the city line.
8. South side of Tuckahoe Rd./Saw Mill River Rd. to the city line.
9. South side of Yonkers Ave./Nepperhan Ave. to the Mt. Vernon city line.
10. North side of McLean Ave./South Broadway to Bronx River Rd.
Elm Street from Nepperhan Avenue to Prescott Street.

Now’s the time for the Police and Fire Department to deploy all of the high priced Disaster Vehicles and Apparatus that they have in reserve, so assist with what we are expecting here in the city. I know that if many of us don’t see any of these trucks on our roads during the height of this storm, many of us who over pay in taxes will be very angry indeed.
