Appended with YFT Response dated September 26, 2011 delineated below.
Based on the answers and statements made at these local candidates’ nights the endorsement was given to Michael Sabatino.
“The YFT has chosen to endorse a candidate based on a 2 or 3 minute summation presented to a possibly biased community,” Mr. Meyer said, asking, would it not have been more beneficial to its members and the public to conduct a detailed interview with specific questions?”
“I don’t believe the members of YFT would accept this process in selecting representatives to their leadership positions nor would teachers expect this process with classroom work.”
Michael F. Meyer is the Republican candidate vying to represent the 3rd Yonkers City Council District.
Response received September 26, 2011 from the Yonkers Federation of Teachers:
"For the record the Yonkers Federation of Teachers (YFT) has 3-4 members attend the AFL-CIO interviews. Mr. Meyer chose not to attend these interviews. Mrs. Puleo attended a community debate at the Riverfront Library. She took time to introduce herself at the end of the debate and shake Mr. Meyer’s hand. She asked him to contact her if he chose to, he did not. The YFT was never contacted by the Meyer campaign.
"Mr. Sabatino attended the interview process at the AFL-CIO and reached out to the teachers for endorsement as well as offered ideas to correct the tone set by the present City Hall administration. Mr. Meyers never asked for our endorsement, never attended interviews, and this whole issue is more about bashing of teachers than discussing new ideas."
