YONKERS, NY – May 23, 2012 – He was considered one of the two finalists after a two-day grueling interview process that seemingly had West Palm Beach Mayor Jeri Muoio using language that placed Former Yonkers Police Commissioner Edmund Hartnett ahead of Cincinnati Assistant Chief Vince Demasi to be chosen the next Police Chief of West Palm Beach. After the two-day interviewing process, an in-depth one to two-week process was engaged.
It is an affront to the hospitality of the good people of West Palm Beach to have learned from Harnett, in a letter he addressed to Mayor Muoio, that he was removing himself from contention, “due to family considerations.”
Hartnett’s spin continued, “Thankfully, there is no illness, injury or tragic situation involved. However, I am obliged to absent myself from the process.”
“Please accept my apology for any inconvenience or difficulty this has caused you and your staff. Please know that it was a very tough decision for me.”
Hartnett was told to depart his office as Yonkers Police Commissioner prior to the accession of present Mayor Mike Spano. It was under Commissioner Hartnett that Hartnett permitted then Mayor Phil Amicone to engage YPD Police Officers to trespass the 1st Amendment rights of The Westchester Guardian for whom I am presently the editor. West Palm Beach likely will not ever know that they have dodged a bullet.
