MOUNT VERNON, NY — November 6, 2012– Con Edison crews are now focused on rebuilding Central Parkway. A convoy of trucks converged upon Central Parkway before nightfall last evening to take the first step toward restoration of power to the hardest hit area of Mount Vernon. Residents are urged to have continued patience. The City of Mount Vernon has been assured crews will work continuously to restore power.
WHAT ELSE IS HAPPENING
Service waas restored to nearly 1,000 Con Edison customers yesterday. As of this morning 6% of Con Edison Mount Vernon customers (1,623) still remain without service. Restorations to date total 20,787 citywide.
The Pennington area has been restored except between Central Parkway between East Devonia and Grand Street. Con Edison is reminding customers experiencing single outages (damaged service, service wires down) that they will experience longer waiting times for restoration of service.
Residents in the Ehrbar Avenue, Rochelle Terrace and Hartley Avenue areas experiencing continued outage are advised that primary wires and transformers are at issue. Steps are currently being taken to expedite restoration not only in this area but also in the Prospect, East Sidney and Darwood Avenues.
Please use extreme caution when coming upon any downed wires. The safest thing to do is to TREAT EVERY WIRE AS LIVE. Remember, all downed wires do not belong to Con Edison. It's always safer to be cautious.
WATER MAIN BREAK
The Mount Vernon Board of Water Supply reports a water main break on Grandview and Vernon Avenues. Crews are currently on site to excavate, inspect the extent of damage and repair the main. Customers in the immediate vicinity of the break have been notified that their water has been temporarily cut off. All other customers may notice brown or cloudy water coming from their tap. If so, they should not use appliances or drink the water until it runs clear.
