YONKERS, NY –June 12, 2014 —  As Cross County Shopping Center celebrates its 60th Anniversary, a lineup of events for SummerFest 2014 will kick off this month at the mall recognized as one of the nation’s earliest outdoor retail destinations. The three-month long celebration will include a series of outdoor celebrations and promotions geared toward families in the region. Plus, shoppers will be able to use the SummerFest Dining & Savings Guide to take advantage of the great retail and dining selection.

“SummerFest is especially exciting this year because it coincides with a remarkable milestone; Cross County Shopping Center’s 60th Anniversary,” said Liz Pollack, Senior Manager of Marketing for Cross County Shopping Center. “Guests should look forward to an exciting summer with us as we provide a fun-filled schedule of entertainment for families, including everything from musical performances and fireworks to some of the best food trucks in the area – the activities will be endless!”


Kicking off a series of outdoor performances throughout the summer will be a musical concert by The Amish Outlaws from 7 pm – 9 pmon Wednesday June 25. The rest of the concert schedule includes: NYC Swing Band on Thursday, July 3; Milagro on Wednesday, July 9; Strawberry Fields on Wednesday, July 16; Hazzard County on Wednesday, July 23; The Benjamins on Wednesday, July 30; and Almost Journey on Wednesday, August 6. Before each band performance, families can arrive early to enjoy a meet and greet hour with classic characters from Mickey Mouse, Sesame Street, Super Heroes and more.

The July 3 concert by the NYC Swing Band includes a Spectacular Fireworks Display to celebrate Independence Day. Each year, thousands of local residents and visitors enjoy the fireworks that amaze both children and adults. The band performance and fireworks are just part of the fun. Starting at 6pm on “The Green” in the center of the mall, strolling entertainers, including stilt walkers, face painters and balloon artists, will captivate the audience with their talents. The band will perform at 7 pm and fireworks will follow at 9:30 pm. Guests can also visit the Cross County booth, located near the center stage, for a free handheld American Flag.


The month of July continues with various celebrations including the much anticipated 60 Years of Summers on Saturday, July 12 where shoppers are invited to join in the celebration of Cross County Shopping Center’s 60th Anniversary. The all-day festival will take place throughout the center and will include decades-themed fashion shows, live concerts, food trucks and children’s activities. Additionally, Food Bank for Westchester will have its mobile pantry on site to raise money for the approximately 200,000 Westchester residents hungry or at risk of being hungry.


Throughout the rest of July and into August, Friday Fun Days will keep children entertained. At each event, children under the age of 12 will enjoy a free interactive musical show, plus an arts and crafts activity on The Green on July 18, July 25, August 8 and August 15 from 9 am to 11 am. Cross County_Summer In the Park

The Sidewalk Chalk Art Festival on Saturday, August 2, which will take place from 10 am to 4 pm throughout the mall that day, will provide an opportunity for the community to see amazing works of art created in chalk by both professional and amateur artists. The theme of the festival is the “1950s” in honor of the mall’s 60th Anniversary. During this event, children can visit Kid’s Zone from 1pm to 3 pm for free art activities. Children will also be invited to draw in chalk throughout the center. At the end of the day, guests will vote for their favorite chalk art display and three more artists will be awarded prizes up to $500.
