WASHINGTON, DC — July 20, 2015 — As the U.S. and Cuba restore diplomatic relations with the opening of the Cuban D.C. embassy, Maximilien Arvelaiz, Chargé d’Affaires at the Venezuelan D.C. Embassy, attending today’s opening ceremony, issued the following statement:

“The Venezuelan Embassy congratulates the U.S. and Cuba on the opening of embassies for the first time in over 54 years. This is a triumph for diplomacy and shows how respectful dialogue is the only way to lasting achievements. We salute the Obama administration’s courage in adopting this new policy in the hope that it leads to further improvement of the relations between the US. and the entire Latin American region, including the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.”
