Councilwoman Lecuona’s Campaign Gains Momentum From Key Endorsement
WHITE PLAINS, NY — June 17, 2017 — The Westchester/Putnam Central Labor Body AFL-CIO voted to endorse Milagros Lecuona for Mayor of White Plains. As Lecuona’s campaign gains momentum against incumbent Mayor Tom Roach, Councilwoman Lecuona believes the endorsement reflects her strong track record and a surge of support for her primary campaign.
“I am proud to receive the endorsement of the Westchester Putnam Central Labor Council,” said Lecuona, “From our electrical workers to our teachers, the AFL-CIO has always fought to defend the rights of the workers that make up the backbone of our city. As a Councilwoman, I have stood with organized labor, and as Mayor I will do the same.”
Lecuona continued, “We have had the opportunity to create an economically sustainable White Plains for quite some time now. I have a strong record of supporting local jobs, small business and affordable housing for our workforce. I will work to make sure that White Plains has a progressive comprehensive plan to bring in new development that will create living wage, local jobs. As Mayor, I will work to ensure that labor has a representative, and that our workers finally have a seat at the table.”
The Central Labor Body represents 150,000 members in Westchester & Putnam counties, with several affiliated unions in White Plains. AFT Local # 3119 (White Plains Teachers Association), International Association Of Firefighters Local #274, International Union of Police Associations Local # 155, Civil Service Employees Association Unit 9152/9246 and 9236-00/01/02, IBEW Local 3, among others, are all affiliated with the Westchester/Putnam Central Labor Body and represent workers in White Plains.
Lecuona is an immigrant from Spain who moved her family to White Plains in 1987 to pursue their American dream. A trained architect and urban planner for the last 35 years she has served on the White Plains Common Council for the past 9 years. During her time in office Lecuona has taken on powerful interests on behalf of the people of White Plains. Entering public service was a natural progression given her lifelong community involvement. She has been the recipient of multiple recognitions and awards.
