WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY — July 7, 2017 — We attended a wonderful family wedding recently which was grand with marvelous music, fantastic food, daring dancing and tons of fun.  Made me a bit worried though as I have three daughters’ weddings somewhere in my future, so I better get to writing this week’s “Elopement” edition of “News & Notes.”
Happy Birthday America!  We hope everyone had a great Fourth of July, if you happen to have missed some of the area’s fireworks, not to worry; the West Point Band will present its annual Independence Day celebration at 7:30pm on Saturday, July 8th with a display over the Hudson River at Trophy Point, West Point, NY.

From Centerfield to Center Stage, Bernie Williams, the New York Yankees center fielder for 16 years.  Now that he’s out of the game, he’s getting back to his musical roots. The former slugger will be bringing his music back to Ridgefield Playhouse with his All-Star Band on Saturday, July 29th at 8pm.  It’s a show you won’t want to miss!  If that is not enough, you can also catch the Bernie Williams & Friends Charity Softball Game at the Playhouse earlier that day at 1pm.

Guess who was on our favorite game show “Jeopardy” the other night, our Armonk neighbor Chloe Zung, a customer experience advisor for internet-based prescription eyeglass seller Warby Parker.

Our friends from the Bedford Village Chowder & Marching Club will sponsor the showing of “The Secret Life of Pets” at a free movie night on July 14th at the Bedford Memorial Park starting at 8:30pm.

Dust off the floppy hats, pastel dresses and seersucker suits, and bring the kids and dogs for a day of fun at the Victory Cup Polo Match in New York’s Hudson Valley.  The fun filled event will be held on Saturday, July 15th, at 683 Route 311, in Patterson, NY.  Not just a polo match, dozens of local chefs, restaurants, farms and local vineyards, distilleries and breweries from the greater Hudson Valley area (and beyond) will be providing tastings at the event.  Guests will enjoy taking in the majesty of the horses, the sights of beautiful people and the thrill of heart pounding polo!  A true entertainment experience, The Victory Cup has not only lined up exciting rival polo matches, but polo-goers will enjoy a classic car show, food trucks, a children’s playground for families and so much more.

Westchester County residents can bring their dogs, cats and ferrets in for free rabies vaccinations on Saturday, July 8th, from 10am to 2pm at the SPCA of Westchester, 590 North State Road, in Briarcliff Manor.

Inspired by “Little Orphan Annie,” the 1924 comic strip by Harold Gray, “Annie“ is a heart-warming story, filled with adventure and laughs that defines what family truly means. One of the longest running shows in Broadway history and the winner of seven Tony Awards, “Annie,” returns to the Westchester Broadway Theatre stage for a run through September 10th. My darling wife and I really enjoyed the production…

On Thursday, July 20th at 6:30pm the Field Library in Peekskill invites children and families to Nature Nick’s Animal Adventures, a free Library Live show.  Nature Nick’s fun, fast-paced and originally scripted show features unusual exotic animals, including a live kangaroo and monkey. This special Library Live performance is presented by “Nature” Nick Jacinto, a professional animal trainer and zoologist. He and his animal friends have been featured on NYC-based TV shows and movies.

Team members from ShopRite Supermarkets, Inc. presented a check recently for $125,000 to representatives from Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital, a member of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network, whose mission is to provide lifesaving and life-changing care to children throughout the Hudson Valley and beyond. The funds will support the hospital’s mission to provide advanced pediatric care to thousands of local children each year.

Once again it’s time for our annual Alzheimer’s Awareness Summer Spectacular Clubhouse sports radio special on July 12th live from Grand Prix NY, in Mount Kisco, from 7 to 9pm; great guests, good fun even if I say so myself, hope to see you there, or listen on WGCH 1490 AM.

On July 29th, the Yonkers Philharmonic presents a concert at Untermyer Park; guest can enjoy music, a picnic and a tour of the Untermyer gardens.

With all the expected heat & humidity, I just have two words to leave you with, “Central Air,” see you soon…
