Lecuona’s Support Within the Firefighter’s Community Continues to Grow
WHITE PLAINS, NY — August 7, 2017 — Common Council Member and Democratic candidate Milagros Lecuona received yet another major endorsement from the White Plains Firefighter’s community last week when the White Plains Retired Uniformed Fire Fighters Association’s Executive Board voted to unanimously support her candidacy for mayor. The retirees also voted to support her slate for Common Council: Democrats Saad Siddiqui, Alan Goldman, and Michael Kraver.
White Plains Retired Uniformed Fire Fighters Association President William McGovern said, “After a lengthy meeting it was apparent the candidates were quite sympathetic to our health benefits situation. The Association’s executive board voted unanimously to endorse Lecuona, Kraver, Siddiqui, and Goldman.”
This endorsement comes after receiving the endorsement of the White Plains Professional Fire Fighters – PFFA Local 274 in June.
“I want to thank President McGovern and the retired firefighters for their support. It is a true honor to have so many of our city’s unsung heroes in my corner. Each day our firefighters put their lives on the line to serve our residents. Our retired firefighters have served for decades doing that valuable work and we are grateful for their efforts,” said Lecuona.
As a Common Council Member, Lecuona has shown steadfast support for White Plains firefighters by echoing their union’s call for necessary training on how to put out fires in downtown high rises as well as safely servicing areas with increased population density.
Lecuona is an immigrant from Spain who moved her family to White Plains by way of Mexico in 1987. A trained architect and urban planner for the last 35 years she has served on the White Plains Common Council for the past nine years.
The White Plains Democratic primary will be held September 12.
