Khader Advises Failure to Address Rat Infestation Creates Safety, Quality of Life and Public Health Concerns and Problems
YONKERS, NY — October 21, 2017 — Mike Khader, Democratic candidate for Yonkers City Council President, has demanded action to address the current rat infestations across Yonkers. After months of news reports and complaints from residents, frustration is growing as the problem continues.
“Plain and simple – our residents deserve better. Rats not only hurt our quality of life, they create a real safety and public health issue. The City Council President is supposed to be an advocate for Yonkers families, working with City Government to find solutions for these kinds of problems but Liam is silent when he needs to speak out,” said Khader. “Worst of all, some residents have even been told that rats coming from the sewers into their homes are not the City’s problem – that’s unacceptable. Our residents shouldn’t be trapped in this ‘cat and mouse’ game when requesting help.”
Whether caused by construction, utility work, or garbage, Khader said that the City has a responsibility to eliminate the rats and the cause of the infestation.
“If Con Ed is doing work and we know that it’s going to stir up rats, Con Ed needs to have a plan to address it. If the city is fixing a sidewalk or sewer and rats are going to start going into people’s homes, the City needs a rat plan in place. It’s common sense,” Khader said.
“As Council President, I’ll be the number-one advocate for Yonkers families, meeting with every neighborhood and fixing problems,” said Khader. “The City pays for pest control, but they’re not getting the job done. So once I’m elected, I’m going to have zero tolerance for rat infestation. I’ll work with city agencies and community members to get these rats off our streets.”
Mike Khader is the endorsed Democratic candidate for Yonkers City Council President.
