WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY — John Khader, Mediterranean Political Action Committee (MPAC) President engages in discourse over some of the most prominent political contests certain to captivate the interests of many voters. The Office of Senator representing Senate District 37 has opened since Westchester County Executive George Latimer won over incumbent CEO Rob Astorino. Assemblymember Shelley Mayer is the Democratic Party Designee. There are two Republican contenders vying to win voter support. Daniel Schorr, a former Yonkers Inspector General, and Sarmad Khojasteh, a commercial litigation lawyer have declared their interest in vying for SD37. We learn the challenges facing the contestants and if there is a role for MPAC, and if so, what it is.
Succession by Mayer to SD37 will open Assembly District 90. Many have shown interest: Yonkers Board of Education Trustees Nader Sayegh, Esq., and Edgar Santana, Yonkers City Council Majority Leader Michael Sabatino, Westchester County Board of Elections Tommy Meier Jr., DPW Deputy Commissioner Sam Borelli, possibly more.
Term limits being extended or rescinded by a majority City Council vote will be voted upon in 2018. Those most likely to support the effort are a Councilmembers Shanae Williams, Corazon Pineda-Isaac, Mike Sabatino, John Rubbo, and Mike Breen. Anthony Merante May vote either way.
