This Time in Texas
DUTCHESS, PUTNAM, and WESTCHESTER COUNTIES — May 19, 2018 — Another school shooting, this time in Texas. More death and heartache and yet Terrence Murphy and his Republican colleagues in the New York State Senate and the US Congress will not be moved. Mr. Murphy is still a cosponsor to repeal the SAFE Act, New York’s and the nation’s premiere sensible gun legislation. This law has kept our children safe and communities safer since the horrific mass shooting in Sandy Hook, Connecticut. So many have been killed across our nation since then! It won’t stop until these legislators are replaced, here in NY Senate District 40, in the 19th Congressional District and around the country.
I call on all the people of our community to unite with me and vote Murphy out of office. I ask all other candidates and office holders to stand with me in support of a unified effort to rid our state of those unwilling to compromise, not on the Second Amendment, but on commonsense solutions to a problem that is long out of control.
We must act. We can and must strengthen the SAFE Act with legislation already passed by the New York State Assembly that will keep weapons out of the hands of those who are a danger to themselves and others, make access to weapons of war out of reach and keep the people of our state safe.
November is a long time away, so we must be vigilant, we must be united, and we must not let up on our resolve to remove Mr. Murphy in November and hold him responsible for his actions until then.
I am calling on Moms Demand Action and the Brady Campaign to Reduce Gun Violence to work with our campaign for New York State Senate and hold Mr. Murphy and his colleague’s feet to the fire until meaningful legislation passes the New York State Senate. Our campaign will not rest until action is taken, we will do all we can in support of Moms Demand and the Brady Campaign. Join us in this effort, for our children, for our communities, our state and our nation.
