WASHINGTON, DC — October 23, 2018 — Congressman Eliot L. Engel, a member of the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus, has received a score of 100 on the Human Rights Campaign LGBTQ Scorecard for his work protecting the rights of the LGBTQ community during the 115th Congress.

Engel was scored on his support for LGBTQ-specific legislation, including the Equality Act, critical legislation that updates our federal civil rights laws to explicitly prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. In addition, HRC also recognized Congressman Engel for supporting legislation that impacts LGBTQ people and their families, like the DREAM Act and the Voting Rights Advancement Act, as well as for opposing Republican-led attempts to cut Title X family planning funds for Planned Parenthood and repeal the Affordable Care Act.

“I’m proud to stand on the right side of history and to have once again earned a 100 from the Human Rights Campaign,” Engel said. “LGBTQ rights are under attack by a Trump Administration that reflects only the most divisive social views. In the face of that unfortunate opposition, I remain as committed as ever to advancing the rights of LGBTQ Americans and the most vulnerable members of our community.”
