New York State Governor Andrew M. Cuomo.

YONKERS NY — December 6, 2018 — Yonkers Tribune has learned that New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo will present his inaugural address at Ellis Island in January 2019. It is an audacious slap in the face to President Donald Trump.

Ellis Island, in Upper New York Bay, was the gateway for over 12 million immigrants to the U.S. as the United States’ busiest immigrant inspection station for over 60 years from 1892 until 1954. Ellis Island was opened January 1, 1892. The island was greatly expanded with land reclamation between 1892 and 1934.

  1. Two of my grandparents entered the United States through Ellis Island, while another came through Boston. Seeing as so many Americans, especially New Yorkers, legally entered the States, through the island, I think it is a great gesture on the part of Cuomo to make his address there. I hope this isn’t just a ploy, to rename another New York State landmark after a Cuomo family member.

  2. This is no slap in the face. Ellis Island was great. We can keep people contained and send them back if we don’t need them. Let’s build the wall and reactivate Ellis Island. When Cuomo gets there we can send him back to Italy.
