YONKERS, NY — December 22, 2018 — Few months present the multicultural celebrations and opportunities that December does!

The holiday season evokes festivities celebrated by many people who reside in Westchester County. Somehow the generic “Happy Holidays” greetings did not impress my sensibilities; it felt distant, uninvolved, uncaring, ignorant, demeaning, lazy, and most derogatory and disrespectful of our colleagues, friends, and neighbors who deserved to be acknowledged for their heritage and their definition of self.

In order of date of occurrence as designated by the calendar, the Yonkers Tribune should like to acknowledge each of our colleagues, friends, and neighbors, even the people we have yet to meet, or sadly may not.

Toward that end, please allow the Yonkers Tribune to extend our best wishes for a happy Saint Nicholas Day, a wondrous Fiesta of Our Lady of Guadalupe, a warm St. Lucia Day, a happy Hanukkah, a joyous Christmas Day, a merry Christmas, a celebratory Three Kings Day / Epiphany, good Boxing Day, a happy Kwanza, a festive Omisoka, a good Yule, and a joyous Saturnalia. And culminating it all is the promise of the year to come. Happy New Year to one and all.
