YONKERS, NY – December 24, 2018 – Mayor Mike Spano, along with the City of Yonkers Department of Parks, Recreation & Conservation, Yonkers City Council and the staff of E.J. Murray’s Memorial Skating Center, hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony on December 21st for the newly renovated Murray’s Skating Center, located at 348 Tuckahoe Road in the City of Yonkers. The event signified the official re-opening of Murray’s after the facility was closed for nearly six months due to the refurbishing project.
“E.J. Murray’s Skating Center is one of the true historical family destinations in not only Yonkers, but in all of Westchester County,” said Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano. “These are the first major renovations at Murray’s in nearly six decades and I feel that our residents, local ice skaters and the area hockey community will greatly appreciate it. Thank you to our Parks Department, city agencies and the wonderful staff at Murray’s for making this endeavor a reality.”
The six-month long project includes improvements such as a refurbished entrance and lobby, new offices and restrooms and a newly created upper mezzanine viewing level. The renovations are the first major upgrades to the skating center since its opening in 1960.
Murray’s Skating Center offers the largest weekly public skating schedule in the area. Voted “Best Ice Skating Rink” by the readers of Westchester Magazine, Murray’s offers public skating hours, hockey programs, rink rentals, ice skating lessons and birthday parties and special events.
