YONKERS, NY — January 13, 2019 — The fire alarm was sounded at 3:35pm. A four-story, multi-family apartment building located at 295 McLean Ave was emitting a large volume of fire from the 2nd floor. 65 Firefighters were in attendance at the scene.
At the time this report came in, it had not yet been determined how many units are in the building.
The main body of the fire was extinguished at 4:30pm and was declared under control at 4:38pm.
Mutual aid assistance from Greenville Fire District (Town of Greenburgh) and the New Rochelle Fire Department were sent to Yonkers.
The Yonkers Office of Emergency Management was on the scene assisting residents cope with tragedy.
By 7pm, it was recognized that there wereee six apartments in the building. The tragedy is that all the apartments are uninhabitable and those residents will need to relocate. The number of people displaced by the fire is yet to be determined.
1 civilian suffered injury, and 5 firefighter injuries; all injuries are judged to be minor.
Cause of fire is under investigation.
