MOUNT VERNON, NY — April 4, 2019 — Veteran Democratic Pollster Tom Kiley continues to delve into voter  sentiment in Mount Vernon. The most recent polls revealed herein were tabulated from among 847 Democrats, from March 18th to April 2nd, 2019. The results are recognized to be plus or minus between 3 and 4 percent. Note as well that Mount Vernon is a city of  predominately Democrat registered voters, so much so that one barely hears of a Republican, Conservative, Independents, or what-have-you. Any party members other than registered Democrats are superfluous to the outcome of choosing the next Mount Vernon Mayor. In fact Mount Vernon is unique, perhaps even recognized as an aberration among municipalities because it is a one-party city.

City Hall. Mount Vernon, NY.

The election process began last month with the intention to get signatories to sign their names on behalf of the various candidates noted herein. The time to collect those signatures was hindered by the cold temperatures that consumed over two weeks worth of shivering cold and inclement weather while collecting signatures. Recognizing the short time by which to get signatures, the New York State Board of Elections reduced the number of signatures required to qualify by 25 percent. In fact, even though the time frame to gather those signatures was truncated, and Mother Nature was seemingly not making it easy, it seems everyone who espoused their interest to become the next Mayor got enough signatures to at least present those petitions to the Westchester County Board of Elections (WCBoE). It will likely be sometime next week when signatures will be validated and thereafter the process of checking for correct spelling of voter’s, addresses, forgeries, what have you, will be studied and challenged. The outcome of those challenges will define if some of the candidates will be able to maintain their campaign effort or be forced out of contention. There is no maybe; it is either“Yes!”, or “No!”

While all municipalities in New York State began their signature gather process on the same day or two, only Mount Vernon has an ace under its sleeve. It is not a slight of hand or illegal in any way. Only Mount Vernon Democrat registered voters will decide the outcome of the campaign effort. The person who wins the Mount Vernon Primary Election, held on June 25, 2019, will not need to worry about the General Election results that everyone else will be anticipating in November.

Most people unaware of the voter registration of Mount Vernonites can’t fathom how Mount Vernonites will know who their next mayor will be when the June 25, 2019 results are in. Are Mount Vernonites clairvoyant? Perhaps. But no one need be clairvoyant since there is no way for another candidate from any other party or even a write-in candidate that can eclipse the number of voters who will cast their vote for a Democrat.

  1. What a shame that Mt Vernon is still in the state of political shambles.
When companies, developers or investors look to invest in this City they are besieged with negative news all to do with the dysfunctional & uncooperative City Hall. Very sad….
