If elected, Ms. Patterson-Howard would be the first elected female mayor in the history of Mount Vernon.
MOUNT VERNON, NY – April 3, 2019 — Shawyn Patterson-Howard, today, filed 2,253 petition signatures, more than three times the required number, and will appear on the ballot in June’s Primary election for Mount Vernon mayor.
“I’m running for mayor because, as a lifelong resident, I know the heart of this city. I know that our interests are not represented at City Hall, said Ms. Patterson-Howard. “Everyone of us is tired of the unkept promises and dirty politics. The lack of transparency and accountability has torn apart the fabric of our city. It’s time to believe in our city again.”
The excitement about her candidacy was clear in the voices of community members such as Nicole Purville, one of hundreds who plans to attend the campaign’s Saturday kick-off event.
“Mount Vernon is a great city in need of better leadership,” said Purville.
“Shawyn is that person.”
“Mount Vernon has really come together to get Shawyn on the ballot,” said campaign manager, Robin Mack. “I am thrilled by the efforts of our volunteers and the campaign team to make sure we start out strong. We look forward to taking all of this positive energy into the next phase of the campaign.”
In a crowded race, Patterson-Howard stands out. Her pledge to run a clean, transparent campaign with integrity has captured the heart of Mount Vernonites, who are fed up with the stagnant state of their city government.
“To move Mount Vernon forward, we must have hard conversations and get diverse minds around the table. I believe in forging relationships, not making empty promises,” said Ms. Patterson-Howard. “It is time for us to work together to take back our city.”
Ms. Patterson-Howard will host a campaign kick-off rally on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at 9:00 AM at the campaign HQ, 11 West Prospect Avenue, 2nd Floor, Mount Vernon, NY.
