Governor Andrew M. Cuomo directs New York State Police to increase patrols at churches and houses of worship across NYS following attacks in Sri Lanka
NEW YORK, NY — April 21, 2019 — “Today, families and friends across the state will gather to celebrate Easter. As we usher in a new spring, let us take time to reflect on the spirit of renewal by working together to build a better, brighter New York for all.
“Our thoughts are with the people of Sri Lanka. The deadly attacks on churches on Easter Sunday are as horrific as they are heartbreaking. Our prayers are with you.
“I also join New Yorkers of Christian faith on this holy day in reflecting on the enduring message of Easter that cherishes rebirth and newfound hope. As we connect with family and friends this weekend, I wish all New Yorkers a blessed Easter filled with joy and happiness.
“In the wake of these despicable acts of violence and out of an abundance of caution, I am directing State Police to increase patrols around churches and houses of worship across the state today. During these troubling times, we will not be intimidated by cowardly acts of violence and will continue to do everything in our power to ensure the safety of all New Yorkers.”
