MOUNT VERNON, NY — May 17, 2019 — Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas had decided on Friday of last week to forego pleading guilty for allegedly stealing $12,900 in campaign funds, as well as failing to report his allegedly receiving $75,000 from his inaugural committee. In addressing the Hon. Supreme Court Justice Barry Warhit, Thomas informed the court that he had faith in the system. Thomas chose to proceed with the trial.
Two weeks after the Mount Vernon Democratic City Committee Primary outcome of June 25, 2019, Hon. Justice Warhit scheduled jury selection with respect to Richard Thomas for July 8, 2019.
Reliable sources with knowledge advise the Yonkers Tribune that political benefactor Joseph Spiezio, III will and is expected to testify against Mayor Richard Thomas.
In the meanwhile, Joseph Spiezio, III was recently in court in which his wife, while she was engaged in testifying and questioned before the court was either disgruntled or impatient with the questioning to which she was asked to respond; she simply got up and walked out of the courtroom. The case involved the purchase of a carting / garbage business that went unpaid to the original owner(s) to the tune of $1.2 million. The Spiezio’s lost the case.
