MOUNT VERNON, NY – May 6, 2019 — Mount Vernon mayoral candidate Shawyn Patterson-Howard began a city-wide four-part candidate speaking series in response to concerns raised by Mount Vernonites around youth services and education. One attendee stressed the benefit of initiating the town hall series discussing education and youth services highlighting that residents must be fully informed and educated on the position and experience of mayoral candidates. To her, Patterson-Howard meets those requirements.
“We want to bring community and schools together, in partnership, to assist young people identify their natural talents and assets and enhance what they already have,” said Patterson-Howard during the town hall.
Questions raised by attendees included further expansion of vocational courses; implementing shared services including human resources between the school district and city hall; and work in coordination with the education foundation to enhance existing programs.
The second topic in the four-part series will be held on Tuesday, May 7 in the Assembly Room.
