Isely: “Why is Rich Thomas Unwilling to Separate the Criminal Element From His Administration?
MOUNT VERNON, NY – May 8, 2019 — A week has passed since a Deputy Commissioner of the Mount Vernon Police Department. Fraida Hickson, appointed by Mayor Rich Thomas, pled guilty to federal charges of credit card fraud. However, Thomas refuses to fire this convicted appointee who also happens to be the sister of his campaign manager.
Example after example of criminal activity, some proven and others alleged, by members of Thomas’ administration continue to stain Mount Vernon’s reputation and cause further embarrassment to the city.
“Simply suspending a political appointee after a guilty plea to federal fraud charges is unacceptable and Mount Vernon taxpayers should no longer be burdened with the six-figure salary/benefits paid to a convicted criminal,” stated Mount Vernon Democratic mayoral candidate Clyde A. Isley. “This example of favorable treatment of a political crony further illustrates the corruption inherent within the Thomas administration.”
Isley earned his reputation as a corruption fighter when, as Commissioner of the Mount Vernon Police Department, assisted the Federal Bureau of Investigation with a successful corruption investigation and prosecution of members of that department. As a result, he was awarded the Outstanding Leadership Award from the FBI’s New York Field Office and the prestigious Director’s Award for Exceptional Public Service by then FBI Director Louis Freeh, who personally bestowed the award upon Isley at the bureau’s headquarters in Washington D.C.
Isley added, “There are plenty of qualified, law-abiding individuals available to perform the duties of that position. So, the question must be asked, just why is Richard Thomas unwilling to separate the criminal element from his administration?”
Clyde Isley is a former Mount Vernon Police Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner of the Westchester County Dept. of Corrections and Dean of Administration and Finance of Hostos Community College. He was the recipient of the FBI Director’s Award for Exceptional Public Service after assisting with their successful investigation to root out corruption within the Mount Vernon Police Department.
