Welcome to “News & Notes,” where we look at the happenings here in Westchester County…

Mark Jeffers resides in Bedford Hills, New York, with his wife Sarah.

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY —  July 1 2019 — We are on our way to the beaches of old Cape Cod for our annual family vacation.  Sunburn, soggy clothes, and sandy sandwiches, can’t wait…if I’m not eaten by a shark please enjoy this week’s “Vacation is all I ever wanted” edition of “News & Notes.”

For a hot time here’s a cool idea…on July 11 at 7p.m. there is a free family concert of rhythm & blues, funk and rock ‘n roll featuring The Mulligans at the Katonah Park Field by the Katonah Park Pool.  Sponsored by the Katonah Memorial Park Association, in cooperation with the Bedford Recreation & Parks Department.

Don’t tell my wife but it is time for the annual Katonah Sales days on July 19 and 20.  Some of the most unique stores in Westchester are having a giant tag sale on Katonah Avenue …. stroll along the avenue for bargains and family fun!

I just love block parties, so count me in for the Katonah Museum of Art’s event on July 13 from 6 to 8 p.m., there will be drinks, gourmet food trucks and music, just hope I don’t break anything…

Congratulations to our friend Bedford Town Clerk Boo Fumagalli as she has been voted in by her peers as the second vice president of the New York State Town Clerks Association, way to go Boo.

The Peekskill Film Festival takes place on July 26 – 28 at the Paramount Hudson Valley Theater.  Founded in 2015, the Peekskill Film Festival (PFF) screens a first-rate mix of features, shorts, documentaries, and animation. In addition to showcasing the best and brightest in indie film, the PFF hosts workshops with Emmy-Award winning artists and filmmakers, parties, panel discussions, and an entire day dedicated to student film — all centered in the historic Hudson Valley Paramount Theater, a beautifully restored, 1,100 seat, 1930’s jewel located in the heart of Peekskill’s arts and restaurant district.

The Bedford Historical Society presents Revolutionary Revels from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Thursday July 11 at the Bedford Historical Hall.  The event will have live music by the Gerard Carelli Quartet; tickets are $125 per person.

On July 14, the NY Empire kicks off the 44th season of World Team Tennis (WTT), the league co-founded by International Tennis Hall of Famer Billie Jean King, fans will get to enjoy an action-packed night of live entertainment, delicious food and fun music as top-ranked American John Isner takes the court at 5 p.m. at the Cary Leeds Center for Tennis & Learning in the Bronx.

He shoots, he scores…congratulations to Bedford’s Trevor Zegras, a two-way forward who starred on the U.S. Under 17 national hockey team, for being the ninth pick in the NHL’s recent draft by the Anaheim Ducks.

We hope everyone had a safe and festive Fourth of July, Happy Birthday America!
