OSSINING, NY — AUGUST 15, 2019 —Community Vigil at the Waterfront: Like everyone who gathered at the waterfront for the community vigil last Thursday evening, I love this community and am so grateful to be part of it. My heart breaks for the people of El Paso and Dayton. They surely love their communities too.

Vigil held in Ossining NY in honor of those who perished in El Paso, Tx and Dayton, OH.

Thank you to all the folks who made the vigil possible. The resident who suggested the idea. Everyone in village and town government who partnered to quickly make it happen. The people who shared thoughtful remarks. The musicians who led us in song. Local officials who read the names of the people whose lives were taken in the latest mass shootings. Community members who helped distribute candles and lyrics. Mother Earth who provided a dramatic sky and glorious double rainbow. Everyone who listened, sang, shared and connected with their neighbors.

Last Wednesday during Continuing Business:  Chief Sylvester provided an update on the department’s efforts to expand and strengthen relations with Ossining’s Spanish speaking community. Click here to view the meeting beginning with the progress on this critical priority.
