OSSINING, NY — AUGUST 19, 2019 —Connecting in Spanish & Future Planning: Thank you to Ossining Padres Hispanos for inviting me to participate in another Facebook Live program last week. It had been quite a while, and I enjoyed the opportunity to respond to questions about things happening in village government. As we continue to expand communication with Spanish speaking residents, forums like this are valuable opportunities for connecting. Though Spanish was my minor in college, it is speaking with residents that really helps improve my skills. Still, I was very grateful for the help with translation, and for the patience of participants.
Last week’s village board work session included a presentation from Village Manager Karen D’Attore with an overview of the priorities she has identified during her first two months in this role. Two months from now, Manager D’Attore will provide us with a status update as she presents her proposed 2020 budget. Wednesday Meeting: This week’s legislative session opens with public hearings on two proposed local laws which amend village code related to plumbing and electrical permits. This week’s meeting includes a resolution that is a continuation of a very long discussion that took place at last week’s work session related to the proposed Big-OSS BBQ. Because this is a legislative session, there are a number of invitations for community members to offer comments. If you would like to spread the word about an upcoming event, please take up to two minutes during Organizational Announcements. Folks who would like to comment on the resolutions included on that night’s agenda may do so for up to four minutes at the start of the Village Board Resolutions portion of the meeting. The meeting closes with an invitation for community members to comment for up to three minutes during Visitor Recognition about any topic of relevance to the common good of the Village. The meeting will be held at the Birdsall-Fagan Police Court Facility on Spring Street.
