OSSINING, NY — AUGUST 5, 2019 —Sunday evening Trustee Manuel Quezada and I joined members of the Ecuadorian community in welcoming Prefecto Yaku Perez Guartambel. This inspiring leader from the region in Ecuador that was home to so many Ossining residents, shared the philosophy that guides his tremendous work to protect water. In honor of the Prefecto’s dedication to the environment, we presented him with a collection of gifts from Green Ossining. Thank you to the leaders of Ossining Padres Hispanos for including us in this culturally rich program.
Last week was a fifth Wednesday and we did not have a Village Board meeting. It was a week filled with fun free community events, which culminated with a perfect night for the Ossining Fire Parade. It was great to see so many residents line the streets to welcome departments and marching bands from across the Hudson Valley.
Open Office Hours with the Mayor will take place tomorrow in the Board of Trustees office on the first floor of Village Hall from 10:00am until 12:00noon. No appointment is necessary, and all are welcome to discuss any topic, concern or idea of interest to you.
Have a burning question or idea, at any hour of the day or night?… Email me (firstname.lastname@example.org), Village Manager Karen D’Attore (email@example.com) or the Board of Trustees (firstname.lastname@example.org).
This week’s legislative session includes a resolution that will formalize a process for residents to propose honoring naming of village streets. This approach will bring consistency to guide future boards in decision making for honorary street names. Click here to read the full agenda.
Also this week, we will be moving forward with a new software program for Village billing, payroll and budgeting. After a disappointing experience with a previous provider, the finance department is excited to implement a new system that will be more functional for staff and residents.
Because this is a legislative session, there are a number of invitations for community members to offer comments. If you would like to spread the word about an upcoming event, please take up to two minutes during Organizational Announcements. Folks who would like to comment on the resolutions included on that night’s agenda may do so for up to four minutes at the start of the Village Board Resolutions portion of the meeting. The meeting closes with an invitation for community members to comment for up to three minutes during Visitor Recognition about any topic of relevance to the common good of the Village. The meeting will be held at the Birdsall-Fagan Police Court Facility on Spring Street.
