NYS Senator Alessandra Biaggi – SD-34 represents some communities in The Bronx and some communities in Westchester County.

MOUNT VERNON, WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY – October 25, 2019 — Last week it was announced that Montefiore Health Systems would be closing down its Mount Vernon Hospital.

State Senator Alessandra Biaggi (D-Bronx/Westchester) issued the following statement:

“I was born at Mount Vernon hospital, and like many district residents, hold the institution and its staff close to my heart. It is imperative that the approximately 68,000 New Yorkers living in Mount Vernon have access to emergency and quality healthcare services. It is unacceptable to take in-patient and surgery services away from Mount Vernon residents, and tell them to look elsewhere. It is no secret that the hospital has not been doing its best to serve the people, but the solution is not to just give up – the solution is to find alternative ways to improve the hospital and ensure that this community receives the quality healthcare services it deserves. I stand with the community and my fellow elected officials in calling for the Mount Vernon Hospital to remain open, and look forward to working together to build sustainable investments that will make it a success.” said State Senator Alessandra Biaggi (D-Bronx/Westchester).

  1. Sen Biaggi like most politicians does her does her political pandering-ask her what was the last hospital she went to when she needed care-bet it was not MV Hospital.

    1. Move too jersey , unlike The senator I was born in The Bronx but now live in Mount Vernon and who needs to be able to get medical attention when and as fast as I can get it, without a hospital near by I would not be here to reply to such a stupid comment. With The help of the senator and not elected yet but will be our next Mayor Ms Howard will not let this happen . As a man I must say it is about Time that NYS is electing more and more women to higher office.

    2. Hospitals need to make money to have the best equipment and services, the Mount Vernon hospital is not doing well. An emergency center is of vital importance to any community and the proposed one is the answer. Hospitalizations and operations can be done at well equipped hospitals anywhere.
