WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY —  October 1, 2019 — Welcome to “News & Notes,” where we look at the happenings here in Westchester County…

Maybe I should clean our couch more often…I found over two dollars in change the other day, I rushed over to the matching chair, but had no luck, so after checking all the other pieces of furniture in our house, I wrote this week’s “Counting my nickels” edition of “News & Notes.”

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month a time to raise awareness about the importance of finding breast cancer early.  Make a difference, spread the word about mammograms, and encourage communities, organizations, families, and individuals to get involved.  On Saturday, October 19th Houlihan Lawrence in Katonah will hold a Bake Sale to benefit Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, we plan on stopping by, I will be wearing my best pink outfit, see you there.

The Bedford Hills Neighborhood Association is getting into the Halloween spirit by sponsoring a Trunk or Treat and a Pumpkin Carving/Painting Contest.  Come on down to the Bedford Hills Train Station on Saturday October 26 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. where kids can safely trick-or-treat from decorated vehicles in the closed parking lot. The event will also feature a Pumpkin Carving Contest with prizes for painted pumpkins for kids age 9 and under and carved pumpkins for 10 and up. Our friends at the Paramount Hudson Valley Theatre in Peekskill present “Presley, Perkins, Lewis & Cash” on October 25 at 8 p.m. The group pays tribute to and celebrates the legendary Sun Records recording artists Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis & Johnny Cash.  From “Blue Suede Shoes” and “Hound Dog” to “Great Balls of Fire” and “Walk the Line” the show energizes and exudes pure 1950s rock and roll.  I just got my dancing shoes out and am ready to go.

The Women’s Civic Club of Katonah is holding their annual Oktoberfest on Saturday, October 19 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Katonah Memorial House.  There will be Oktoberfest brew, brats, wine and soft drinks.  We attended this grand event last year, and it was tons of fun, I bought a giant beer stein that I’m still sipping from.

As 2019 continues to speed along, let’s talk ice skating, The Harvey School in Katonah registration for the fall session of ice skating lessons at Evarts Rink is underway and closes on October 16, lessons start up on Saturday October 19.

The Bedford Audubon Society is holding a fun party “Burritos for Barn Owls” at the Bedford Truck Restaurant on Monday, October 7 from 6 to 8 p.m., sounds like a good time as long the burritos aren’t made from the bird there are honoring…

Local businesses will be offering special discounts, great food, and giveaways when you invite a friend to spend the day with you in Katonah, Share the Fun, Share the Love, Share Katonah!

My buddy Doug McLaughlin asked me to remind everyone to support our three wonderful libraries that serve the town of Bedford, we are very fortunate to have these outstanding institutions available for all of us to use and enjoy.
