WESTCHESTER, NY — November 18, 2019 — Assemblymember David Buchwald, a Democrat running for Congress in New York’s 17th Congressional District, currently represented by retiring Congresswoman Nita Lowey, announced today the endorsements of over 40 local leaders from 10 different towns across the district.
The 41 elected and former elected leaders join previously announced Buchwald supporters Assemblywoman Amy Paulin, White Plains Mayor Tom Roach, Mt. Kisco Mayor Gina Picinich, and Town Supervisors Gary Zuckerman (Rye Town) and Michael Schiliro (North Castle), as momentum is building for David Buchwald’s candidacy. The North Castle Democratic Committee has also unanimously endorsed Buchwald, and additional Democratic committee endorsements are expected in upcoming days.
“I fully support David Buchwald as he runs for Congress,” said Mount Kisco Deputy Mayor Jean Farber. “Throughout his years serving our community, he has fought for our values and stood for greater government transparency and accountability. When it comes to gun violence and climate change, we need leaders who will take action – that’s David.”
“I am excited to support David Buchwald to represent Westchester and Rockland in Congress. He is a true blue Democrat, who has never backed down from a challenge – or from Donald Trump — and has fought for women’s access to healthcare, gun control, and environmental protections. We need David in Congress,” said Peekskill Deputy Mayor Kathleen Talbot.
“During his years of service to our community as our New York State Assemblyman, David Buchwald has been a tireless advocate on local issues, while also championing our shared values. He is smart, creative, and industrious, and I know he will continue to work hard on behalf of his constituents as our Congressman. David is a worthy successor to Congresswoman Nita Lowey who has been a friend to New Castle, and an inspiration to so many. I am proud to endorse Assemblyman David Buchwald,” said New Castle Town Board Member and Supervisor-Elect Ivy Pool.
“David Buchwald is the best choice to succeed Congresswoman Lowey as our representative in Congress. He has the right experience to take the fight to Donald Trump and Washington Republicans and will advocate for issues that are impacting us here – high taxes, climate change, and healthcare access – and I am confident he will be an active and responsive voice for us in Washington,” said Mount Pleasant Town Board Member Francesca Hagadus-McHale.
“I am proud to have the support of such an overwhelming group of respected leaders across the district as I run for Congress. I believe that working together is critical to making change happen, and I’ve worked hard throughout my career to build relationships across Westchester and Rockland. From climate change solutions to healthcare access to lowering our taxes by fighting to reinstate our SALT deductions, I am committed to delivering for our communities in Congress,” said Buchwald.
Raised in Westchester, Buchwald was elected to the State Assembly in 2012, beating a two-time Republican incumbent. Buchwald has gained particular renown this year for his successful push to adopt a law allowing the sharing of the New York State tax returns of top elected officials, a law which Donald Trump is now suing to block.
